Volume IV of *Wai Tai Mi Yao*: Five Miscellaneous Formulas for Treating Gu Poison
1. Formula for treating acute Gu disease with symptoms resembling roundworms.
Realgar (ground) Musk (ground)
Take the above two substances, each in an amount equivalent to a soybean. Take a piece of raw sheep lung approximately the size of a finger, slice it open with a knife, place the powdered Realgar and other ingredients inside, wrap them in the lung tissue, and swallow whole. (This method is consistent with *Cui Shi Ji Yan* and *Gu Jin Lu Yan*)
2. Another formula for treating snake poison ingested when consuming vegetables and fruits.
Soak powdered soybeans in wine, extract half a sheng of the juice, and drink it. Additionally, mix chicken blood with genuine iron essence, form into one pill the size of a sophora seed, and swallow. (This method is consistent with *Gu Jin Lu Yan*)
3. Another case: A person became poisoned after eating their fill of newly spoiled fish, resulting in heart and abdominal pain, hardness below the heart, fever, irritability, a desire to have water poured over the body, and bodily movements resembling a fish thrashing in water. A physician diagnosed this as Gu disease, but the family claimed there was no such poison in the wild and refused Gu treatment; consequently, the patient died. (All from Volume IV)
4. *Qian Jin Fang* formula for treating Gu infection caused by drug contamination.
Mylabris (six pieces, remove feet and wings, stir-fry) Cinnamon Heart (one piece, size of a finger) Soil under the cooking pot (size of a pellet) Veratrum (size of a finger, processed by heat)
Grind the above four substances into powder. Administer one qianbi dose with water to expel worms, snakes, shrimp, toads, dung beetles, and white parasites.
5. Another formula for treating Gu poison where the abdomen is hard as stone, complexion is greenish-yellow, urination is dribbling, and symptoms vary unpredictably.
Rhinoceros Horn (one liang) Peony Root (one liang) Coptis Rhizome (two liang; original text specifies one liang) Gardenia Seed (ten seeds) Lotus Leaf (four taels and half)
Chop the above seven substances. Decoct with five sheng of water until one and a half sheng remains. Strain the dregs. Divide into two doses and take warm. (This formula is also found in *Yi* and *Gu Jin Lu Yan*, Volume XXV)
6. *Gu Jin Lu Yan* formula for Gu poison in food causing abdominal hardness and pain, greenish-yellow complexion, emaciation with visible bones, and unpredictable pathological changes.
Obtain iron essence from the furnace ash, grind finely. Independently grind black chicken liver and mix with the iron essence. Form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take three pills with wine, three times daily. Severe cases resolve within ten days; mild cases resolve immediately. (This method is consistent with *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* and *Cui Shi*, Volume XLV)
