Su Gong's Fangji Decoction (Puerariae Radix Decoction) is indicated for generalized fullness and distension, difficult urination, rebellious Qi ascending, accumulation of phlegm-fluids above and below leading to an inability to eat, and abdominal distension after eating.
* Sangbaipi (Morus Albae Cortex, 5 liang)
* Doudou (Sojae Semen Album, 5 sheng, boiled with 2 dou of water and Sangbaipi until 1 dou remains, then filtered)
* Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix)
* Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium)
* Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Core, 3 liang)
* Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, de-stemmed, 3 liang)

* Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 80 seeds)
* Zisu Jingye (Perillae Caulis et Folium, 2 liang, cut)
Cut the above ten ingredients. Using the decoction prepared from the aforementioned herbs, boil to obtain 3 sheng of liquid, filter, and divide into three doses. For those with weak constitution, divide into five doses. Allow a interval equivalent to walking six or seven li between doses. Cover slightly to induce profuse sweating. When urination becomes smooth and swelling subsides downward, if cold signs are prominent, add Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 4 liang); if heat signs are prominent, add Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 4 liang). Avoid vinegar products.
Another decoction for swelling, fullness, and scanty urine:
* Banglang (Arecae Semen, 30 seeds, crushed with shell)
* Doudou (Sojae Semen Album, 3 sheng)
* Sanggen Baidi (Mori Radicis Cortex, 2 sheng)
* Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 1 jin, with skin)
Cut the above four ingredients. Boil in 2 dou of water to obtain 5.5 sheng of liquid, filter, and divide into six or seven doses. Take each dose at intervals equivalent to walking ten li. Repeat dosing. When urination becomes smooth, swelling will subside. For emaciated individuals who cannot tolerate strong purgation, stop temporarily by consuming small amounts of rice gruel.
Another Zisu Tang (Perilla Decoction):
* Zisu Jing (Perillae Caulis, 1 liang)
* Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted)
* Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1.5 liang each)
* Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 3 liang)
* Banglang (Arecae Semen, 5 seeds)
Cut the above five ingredients. Boil in 5 sheng of water to obtain 2 sheng of liquid, divide into three doses, with intervals equivalent to walking ten li. Long-term consumption can permanently resolve rebellious Qi. Avoid Algae (Haizao) and Chinese Cabbage (Songcai). (Both extracted from the Upper Volume)
The *Bingyuan* (Source of Diseases) states that this condition arises from wind-damp-toxic qi, initially ascending from the feet, then transferring to the abdomen, and attacking the Qi mechanism, thus causing rebellious Qi ascending. (Extracted from Volume 13)
Zhang Wenzhong's Sand Niuxi Sanwu San (Three-Ingredient Powder of Sand and Achyranthes) treats Hongxiangjiao (Beriberi) with rebellious Qi ascending.
* Sha (Sand/Mineral substance, context-specific, likely referring to a specific mineral or typo for another herb in some editions, kept as 'Sha' here)
* Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix)
* Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang each)
Grind the above medicines into powder. Mix with wine and take one fangcun bi (a measure approx. 1 cubic inch) per dose, twice daily. Effect is seen after four or five doses. This formula was granted by imperial decree to General Murong Baojie; users report miraculous efficacy. Su Gong's Hongxiangjiao formula states this is a method from Brahmanism. (Same as Beiji Bixiao)
Another formula for Hongxiangjiao with rebellious Qi ascending into the abdomen and swelling:
* Yejiaogen (Root bark of wild pepper tree, remove upper epidermis, finely cut, 1 sheng)
Take this single ingredient. Put it in a bottle with 2 sheng of wine, seal the neck with mud, heat over fire until it boils once, then warm and drink one zhan (cup). Very effective. Only avoid cold and fatty foods; other restrictions do not apply. (Extracted from Volume 9)
Su Gong's Hongxiangjiao San (Beriberi Powder) treats weak legs, rebellious Qi ascending, numbness and fullness, inability to eat, for long-term use.
* Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix)
* Sha (Sand/Mineral substance)
* Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma)
* Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix)
* Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma)
* Yuliren (Pruni Armeniacae Semen, peeled, 3 liang each)
Pound and sieve the above six ingredients into powder. Take one fangcun bi with wine, twice daily. It treats distension and swelling, directs Qi downward. Suitable for Spring, Autumn, and Winter months; not suitable for hot Summer. In these three seasons, it reduces swelling and promotes urination, and also tonifies wind-deficiency cold distension and inability to eat. Avoid peaches, plums, sparrow meat, and raw vegetables. (Extracted from Upper Volume)
Tang Dynasty treatment for rebellious Qi ascending: Banglang Tang (Areca Decoction).
* Banglang (Arecae Semen, 14 seeds)
* Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 28 seeds, peeled and cored, pounded)
Take the above two ingredients. Boil in one large sheng of human urine to obtain half a sheng of liquid. Divide into two doses, with an interval of about five to six li. This formula strongly directs Qi downward. Taking it once daily is optimal. If bowel movement is desired, crush the Areca nut including its seed, boil as before to extract juice, and consume for rapid purgation.
Another Fengyin Tang (Wind-Guiding Decoction) treats numbness, fullness, rebellious Qi ascending, generalized body swelling, knee pain, and expels wind-dampness pain.

* Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted)
* Fuling (Poria Cocos)
* Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 2 liang each)
Cut the above eight ingredients. Boil Sojae Semen Album in 2 dou of water and 2 sheng of wine until 1 dou of liquid remains. Filter, add the remaining herbs, and boil to obtain 3 sheng of liquid. Divide into three doses. After three courses of treatment, swelling subsides. Remove Sojae Semen Album and Zexie, continue taking for three more courses to achieve cure. Avoid pork, cold water, algae, Chinese cabbage, and vinegar. (Extracted from Upper Volume)
