Bi Ju (carbuncle of the temple) occurs between the hairs of the temple, resembling a furuncle, with intense itching. The larger ones are called Yong (abscess), the smaller ones Ju (ulcer), and those that fail to heal for a long time are called Lou (fistula). This condition arises because the patient has a habitual preference for rich and heavy flavors, repeatedly suffering from heat syndromes, thus forming this toxicity. Its treatment is the same as that for Bi Ding (furuncle of the temple). At the initial stage, apply Tai Sui Mo (a specific medicinal ink/paste) to the affected area. First, administer Jin Gong Wan (Golden Centipede Pill), followed by Zhong Jiu Wan (Central Nine Pills) and Shi Xuan San (Ten Acupoints Powder). Externally, use fumigation, washing, flesh-regenerating, and mouth-leveling methods. As long as pus forms, there is no case that cannot be cured.
Zui Ding (furuncle of the lip) occurs on the lips. At the initial stage, moxibustion with mugwort fire can be used. If it itches, moxa must be applied until it hurts; if it hurts, moxa must be applied until it itches. Its treatment is the same as that for Bi Ding. Through application, fumigation, and oral medication, there is no case that cannot be cured.
Shui Ding (water furuncle) can occur in any part of the body or limbs. At the initial stage, the skin feels numb and itchy; scratching causes pain. The color is dark purple like a rash. It erupts suddenly like thunder, with unbearable pain. The skin and flesh at the rash site break down and exude fluid. Within seven days, or even within the first few days, it may rot into a deep pit. Patients groaning day and night mostly have a poor prognosis (more ominous than auspicious). Treatment involves internal administration of Zhong Jiu Wan, combined with Jin Gong Wan. Externally, apply Tai Sui Mo, and fumigate/wash three times daily with Fumigation and Washing Decoction. Stop fumigation if it causes pain. Cases with pus are treatable; cases without pus where rotting reaches the bone are incurable.
Er Men Yong (carbuncle of the ear gate) is an ulcer occurring inside the ear. Symptoms are mostly caused by accumulated heat. One side becomes hard up to the ear root, with severe redness, swelling, and pain. At the initial stage, apply Ma Liang Gao (Hemp Cooling Ointment) to relieve pain. Internally, take Zhong Jiu Wan, combined with Jin Gong Wan, to rapidly dissipate the toxin and prevent it from lingering and causing major complications. This condition will inevitably suppurate. The treatment is the same as for Bi Ju: internally take Zhong Jiu Wan, combined with Qian Nei Tuo San (Thousand Gold Internal Support Powder). After seven days, pus discharges from the ear. If the pus does not dry up for a long time, use medicated thread powder. Make strips from cotton paper, attach the powder, and insert them into the ear. Repeat insertion several times until the pus dries up, then it heals.
This disease grows above the uvula of the throat. There is one fleshy ball on each side, blocking the throat, preventing water and food from going down. The eyes often have pus, and the shape resembles a rotten winter melon. Treatment involves using a bamboo tube containing a medicated thread. Use an iron tool to push the thread into the fleshy ball. Insert the thread once a day for three consecutive days, after which the balls will subside. Recovery will be about 80-90% complete within six or seven days. When the throat no longer hurts and solid food can be eaten, apply Tian Ran San (Natural Powder) for flesh regeneration and wound leveling. Internally, take Zhong Jiu Wan, combined with Gan Jiao Xiao Tan Yin (Licorice and Platycodon Phlegm-Resolving Drink): Jie Geng (Platycodon Root) and Dou Gen (Polygonatum Rhizome, likely referring to a specific local herb or typo for Ban Xia/other, but kept as literal translation contextually) (each 1 qian), Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit), Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Bo He (Mentha Herb), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (each 0.5 qian), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (0.7 qian), Da Li Zi (Arctium Fruit), Chi Shao (Red Peony Root), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) (each 0.5 qian), Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root), Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (each 0.7 qian), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatherum Leaf) (0.5 qian, decocted in water and taken orally). Snuffing Powder: Xiong Dan (Bear Bile), Gong Fen (Lead White/Powder), Bing Pian (Borneol), Gan Shi (Calamine), Ming Xiong (Realgar), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), Dou Gen (each specified amounts: Xiong Dan 3 fen, Gong Fen 1 fen, Bing Pian 1 fen, Gan Shi 1 qian, Ming Xiong 1 qian, Zhu Sha 5 fen, Dou Gen 1 qian). Grind all together into fine powder and snuff it. Within half a month, recovery is achieved. Finally, use Jia Wei Tian Ran San (Modified Natural Powder) to close the wound: Jia Wei Tian Ran San (different from the previous formula) Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Long Gu (Fossilized Bones), Hai Piao Xiao (Cuttlefish Bone), Bing Pian (Borneol), Er Cha (Camellia Leaf Extract), Ru Xiang (Frankincense), Mo Yao (Myrrh), Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood). Grind all into fine powder and mix with Tian Ran San for use. Its function is to regenerate flesh and level the wound.
