Tonify the source of Fire (Mingmen Fire/Kidney Yang) to dissipate the shadows of Yin. For cases where Kidney Essence and True Yang are insufficient, Fire is weak and fails to generate Earth (Spleen/Stomach), and the pulse is deficient, large, and powerless, this formula is appropriate.

(Dui Kou Ju / Opposite Neck Carbuncle; Pian Dui Kou Ju / Oblique Opposite Neck Carbuncle)
Those occurring on the brain are called Nao Ju (Brain Carbuncle). Those occurring at the back of the neck are called Dui Kou Ju (Opposite Neck Carbuncle). Those occurring on the sides of the neck are called Pian Dui Kou Ju (Oblique Opposite Neck Carbuncle). The central Dui Kou Ju is easy to treat, while the Pian Dui Kou Ju is difficult because its soft tissue is close to the throat. These are mostly caused by excessive consumption of rich foods and strong wine, leading to obstruction by Wind-Cold pathogens. It is suitable to first apply Shen Huo Zhao Fa (Divine Fire Illumination Method, a warming therapy), then apply Wu Jin Gao (Black Gold Ointment). Externally paste Wan Quan Gao (Perfect Safety Plaster) to facilitate suppuration. After the necrotic tissue sloughs off, wash the area with Fang Feng Tang (Saposhnikovia Decoction), sprinkle Hai Fu San (Sea Floating Powder), and continue pasting Wan Quan Gao, changing it frequently several times. Then it will heal.
(Fa Yi / Parotitis; Shi Du / Seasonal Toxin; Da Tou Tian Xing / Great Head Epidemic)
Those occurring around the ears are called Bin Ju (Temple Carbuncle). Those occurring on both cheeks/jaw angles are called Fa Yi (Parotitis). In the early stage, use Yin Hua Gan Cao Tang (Honeysuckle and Licorice Decoction) added with Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Herba), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), and Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus) to clear and disperse. If the swelling is extremely severe, Bian Fa (Bian Needling/Bloodletting) must be used. If pus has formed but not yet ruptured, apply Wu Jin Gao to the head of the sore and paste Wan Quan Gao; it will naturally suppurate and rupture. After rupture, use Hai Fu San and paste Wan Quan Gao; recovery should follow naturally. Diffuse swelling below the face without a head is called Shi Du (Seasonal Toxin), commonly known as Ha Ma Wen (Toad Plague). Swelling covering the entire head and face is called Da Tou Tian Xing (Great Head Epidemic), commonly known as Da Tou Wen (Great Head Plague). All these are caused by stagnation and heat of Wind-Fire. In the early stage, use Jia Wei Gan Jie Tang (Modified Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) to dissipate. If dissipation does not remove the pathogen, use Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin (Universal Benefit Detoxification Decoction) to clear heat and detoxify. If the swelling is extremely vigorous, combine with Bian Fa.
Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 3 qian each) Jie Geng (Platycodon Root, 3 qian each) Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus, fried 2 qian) Jing Jie (Schizonepeta, 3 qian) Bo He (Mint, 5 fen) Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus, 1.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. If the bilateral cheeks are severely swollen, add Chai Hu (1.5 qian) and Dan Pi (3 qian).
