Shang Yong (Carbuncle on the Upper Neck) presenting as a grape-like shape is caused by accumulated heat in the Shaoyin and Sanjiao meridians. Symptoms include difficulty in tongue extension and retraction, red nasal discharge, inability to open and close the mouth, and worsening of chills and fever.
[Note] This condition is also known as Xuan Yong (Hanging Carbuncle), occurring in the upper part of the oral cavity, resulting from accumulated heat in the Heart, Kidney, and Sanjiao meridians. It resembles a purple grape; the tongue is difficult to extend or retract, the mouth is difficult to open or close, red nasal discharge occurs frequently, and severe chills and fever arise. It is suitable to take Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification) with Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) and Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root), combined with blowing Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder) into the lesion. If the swelling becomes hard and hangs down after a long time without ulceration, use Shaoyan San (Burnt Salt Powder) applied three to five times daily, combined with taking Shegan Wan (Belamcanda Pill). If treatment is delayed, leading to inability to ingest food, restlessness, and coma, it is considered a adverse prognosis (Ni Zheng).
Shaoyan San (Burnt Salt Powder)
Yan Shi (Halitum, fire-treated) and Ku Baifan (Alumen Exsiccatum) in equal parts.
Grind the two ingredients into fine powder. Dip the tip of a chopstick into the powder and apply it to the affected area.
[Prescription Song] Shaoyan San treats Shang Yong, where Xuan Yong resembles a purple grape; Alumen exsiccatum and burnt salt are ground equally into powder, applied with a chopstick tip to dissipate heat obstruction.
Shegan Wan (Belamcanda Pill)
Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Chuan Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, skin and tip removed, stir-fried with bran), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), each 5 qian; Muguzi (Mume Fructus), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried), each 2 qian.
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of small marbles. Take one pill per dose, hold in the mouth until dissolved, and swallow slowly.
[Prescription Song] Shegan Wan treats Xuan Yong, where heat accumulation forms a mass making mouth opening difficult; Dahuang, Shengma, Muguzi, and Xingren are used, formed into honey pills the size of marbles to be held in the mouth.

Suo Hou Du (Lock-Throat Toxin) arises from accumulated heat, complicated by external contraction of wind-cold, forming a nodule in front of the ear. The exterior resembles Luo Li (scrofula) gradually attacking the throat. It involves the Tinghui acupoint of the Heart and Small Intestine meridians.
[Note] This condition results from accumulated heat in the Heart and Small Intestine, combined with external contraction of wind-cold, leading to condensation. It initially appears at the Tinghui acupoint in front of the ear, resembling Luo Li, and gradually attacks the throat, causing swelling, blockage, pain, and difficulty in eating. The condition requires rapid treatment. It is suitable to take Niuhuang Qingxin Wan (Calculus Bovis Clearing Heart Pill) to open orifices and clear heat, combined with taking Qingyan Lige Tang (Throat-Clearing and Diaphragm-Relieving Decoction) and blowing Bingpeng San into the lesion. If the prescription takes effect, success can be achieved.
