Tanzhu Fa (Phlegm-Node Abscess) presents with a shape resembling a cloth bag. Upon palpation, it feels woody and hard with slight pain. The affected area is neither red nor hot. It is formed by damp-phlegm and the stagnation of the seven emotions.
[Note] This condition occurs on the back. Its long form resembles a cloth bag, and its short form resembles a winter melon. Palpation reveals a woody hardness with slight pain; there is no heat or redness, and the skin color remains normal. It arises from damp-phlegm and the stagnation of the seven emotions condensing within the muscle layers, accumulating over time to form. In the initial stage, it is advisable to take Chuangke Liqi Yin (Surgeon's Qi-Regulating Decoction) internally and apply Jinfeng Huatan Gao (Golden Phoenix Phlegm-Resolving Plaster) externally to resolve it. If this condition has persisted for a long time and is stubborn, resisting treatment, it will eventually suppurate at the appropriate time. The treatment methods follow those outlined in the section on Ulcerative Sores and Carbuncles.
Chuangke Liqi Yin (Surgeon's Qi-Regulating Decoction)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed with ginger juice), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, stir-fried with salt water), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, stir-fried with bran), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried with wine), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [each 7 fen], Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Nanmuxiang (Costi Root), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Binglang (Arecae Semen) [each 5 fen].
Add one slice of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) as a guide, with two bowls of water, decoct until eight-tenths remain, and take warm.
[Fang Ge - Prescription Verse]
Liqi Yin disperses phlegm and saliva obstruction,
Renshen, Houpo, Jiegeng, Baizhi, and Fangfeng.
Zisu, Zhike, Rougui, Nanmuxiang, Gancao,
Wuyao, Binglang, Danggui, Baishao, and Chuanxiong.
Jinfeng Huatan Gao (Golden Phoenix Phlegm-Resolving Plaster)
Fengxianhua (Impatiens balsamina Flower, remove green calyx, grind into powder, one handful), Dacong natural juice (one teacup), Hao Mi Cu (Good Rice Vinegar, one teacup), Guangjiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, cut into rice-grain-sized pieces, soak in scallion juice, 3 qian), Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Hominis Ossis Crinis, slightly calcined to retain nature, grind into powder, 8 qian).
First, put Dacong juice, Mi Cu, and Guangjiao into a pot and boil until melted. Then add Fengxianhua powder and continue boiling to form a plaster. Finally, add Renzhongbai powder, remove the pot from fire, and stir occasionally until uniform. When using, melt it in a double boiler. Apply thinly on paper according to the size of the phlegm nodule. Wait for the plaster to fall off naturally, then replace with a new plaster.
[Fang Ge - Prescription Verse]
Jinfeng Huatan resolves hardness and firmness,
For damp-phlegm nodules, application brings recovery.
Fengxianhua, Renzhongbai, Guangjiao, and vinegar,
Boiled together with Dacong juice, spread on paper.
