The Lianzhu Du (String-of-Pearls Toxin) presents in a shape resembling beads strung together. It occurs on the back, with slight pain and pale red coloration. Upon onset, there is urinary retention, fullness of the lower abdomen, swelling of the scrotum, and pain in all joints.
[Note] This condition arises on the back, regardless of the left or right side, with three to five consecutive swellings shaped like strung pearls. It is caused by fire-toxin in the Ying blood (nutritive blood), or due to excessive consumption of alcohol and sexual indulgence. The sore is slightly painful, with pale red skin color. During onset, the lower abdomen becomes distended, urination is difficult and scanty, the scrotum swells, and all joints ache. In the initial stage, it is appropriate to administer Shenshou Weisheng Tang (Divine Grant Health Preservation Decoction) with added Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) and Cheqian (Plantaginis Semen). All other internal and external treatment methods follow the regulations for Yong Ju Swelling Ulcer (Boil and Carbuncle Swelling Ulcer) and Ulcerated Ulcer sections.
Dan Du (Red Poison) manifests as if burned by boiling water or fire. There are countless fine red spots with spreading erythematous halos, accompanied by extreme thirst. This condition is caused by the prolonged use of Dan Shi (Cinnabar and Litharge) potent medicines. A red and vibrant complexion indicates survival; purple and dark complexion indicates death.
[Note] This condition arises on the back, resembling burns from hot liquids or fire. It presents with countless fine lesions and spreading red halos. Upon onset, extreme thirst occurs, caused by the habitual intake of Dan Shi potent medicines. Initially, Huanglian Xiaodu Yin (Coptis Detoxification Decoction) should be taken, combined with Guolao Gao (Old Man's Paste). Externally, thin slices of beef should be applied. If the color is red, vibrant, and moist, and the spirit is clear, the prognosis is good. If the color is purple and dark, accompanied by coma, restless pulse, abdominal distension, vomiting, and hiccups, the prognosis is fatal.
Guolao Gao (Old Man's Paste)
Gancao (Licorice Root, large roots, two jin [approx. 1 kg])
Crush the roots, soak them in river water overnight, knead until the juice is thick, remove all fibrous residue, then filter through silk cloth. Slowly boil in a silver vessel until it forms a paste, and store in a porcelain jar. Take three qian (approx. 9 g) per dose, mixed with warm wine without ash, or plain boiled water is also acceptable.
[Prescription Verse] Guolao Gao resolves Dan Shi toxicity; for various sores, swelling subsides upon its use. Two jin of Licorice soaked in river water, juice extracted and boiled into paste, taken with warm wine.
Qin Ju (Bird Carbuncle) toxin arises from epidemic Qi (pathogenic factors prevalent in a specific season). It presents as several lumps resembling rashes with purple-red coloration. It occurs on the back, looking like bruises from being punched. The back feels stiff, numb, and does not hurt. Clear spirit and harmonious pulse, with sweating after medication, indicate a favorable course. Coma, restless pulse, or weak/intermittent pulse, accompanied by chills and clenched teeth, indicate an unfavorable course. Initially, Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Formula for Preserving Life Decoction) should be taken urgently, with added Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) to induce sweating. Externally apply Erwei Baidu San (Two-Ingredient Antidote Powder) or Ketou Baidu San (Tadpole Antidote Powder) to reduce swelling. If the swelling is diffuse and does not suppurate, Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Interior-Supporting Pus-Expelling Decoction) should be taken. All other internal and external treatment methods follow the regulations for Yong Ju Swelling Ulcer and Ulcerated Ulcer sections.
