Wanling Dan (Ten Thousand Spirits Pill), Chansu Ding (Toad Venom Tablet), Taiyi Gao (Great Unity Plaster), Yuhong Gao (Jade Red Plaster) (all recorded in the Chapter on Swollen Ulcers)
Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Thousand Tonications), Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) (both recorded in the Chapter on Open Ulcers)
Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) (recorded in the Chapter on Bone-Deep Abscesses)
Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) (recorded in the Chapter on Chancre)
Xuan Yong (Hanging Abscess) is formed due to the deficiency of the three Yin meridians and the accumulation of damp-heat. This location is situated anterior to the anus and posterior to the genitalia, also known as the Haidi acupoint. Initially, it resembles a lotus seed, with slight itching and significant pain. Over time, it gradually enlarges like a peach or plum, becoming red, swollen, and painful, eventually suppurating. After rupture, mild cases may develop into fistulas, while severe cases may exhaust Qi and Blood, leading to consumptive diseases from which recovery is difficult. If the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is robust at the onset, Jiulong Dan (Nine Dragons Pill) should be used to purge the root of the disease; if slightly deficient, Neixiao Woxue Tang (Internal Resolution Snow-Melting Decoction) should be used to drain damp-heat. Only three or four out of ten cases may resolve internally. If after more than ten days the swelling has established and cannot be resolved internally, Tuoli Xiaodu San (Interior-Supporting Toxin-Expelling Powder) added with Shan Jia (Pangolin Scale) and Zaojiao Ci (Gleditsia Spine) should be administered, which will naturally lead to rupture. If the swelling is high and bright, indicating mature pus but no head, it should be urgently lanced with a needle; once foul pus drains, the condition will easily stabilize. After pus drainage, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) should be taken in the morning, and Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Thousand Tonications) added with Mudan Pi (Moutan Cortex) and Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) at noon to warm-tonify and nourish Yin. For those who consume rich foods and have robust constitutions, Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) should be taken initially, followed by Ziyin Bawei Tang (Yin-Nourishing Eight-Ingredient Decoction) after rupture to clear latent heat. For those who are thin, suffer from sexual exhaustion, and have deficient Qi and Blood, Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) added with Zexie (Alisma Rhizome) and Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) should be taken initially, and Shiquan Dabu Tang (Decoction for Ten Thousand Tonications) added with Mudan Pi (Moutan Cortex) and Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) after rupture. For those with weak Spleen function, Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Middle-Warming Qi-Supporting Decoction) should be used to nourish the source of transformation. If a fistula forms over time, Guolao Gao (Old Man's Honey Paste) dissolved in decoction should be used to swallow Lafan Wan (Beeswax-Alum Pill). If cold-natured herbs are mistakenly administered throughout the course, damaging Stomach and Spleen Qi, causing Qi and Blood to congeal like ice, leading to an expanding wound and continuous foul discharge, the condition will inevitably transform into a wasting consumptive disease, making it difficult to cure ultimately.
If it begins like a pine nut and gradually enlarges to the size of a plum or apricot, with redness, swelling, pain, brightness, and fever, it is a mild case. If it has already formed high swelling with pain, a distinct base, thin skin prone to rupture, and distending pain upon pus formation, it is an easy-to-treat case. If it has ruptured with thick yellow pus, odorless, with pain subsiding and itching appearing, it is a favorable progression. If it begins with purple hardness, diffuse swelling at the base, pain radiating to the buttocks and knees, and difficulty in urination and defecation, it is a severe case. If it has formed swelling like a cucumber, with purple spots and rotting, discharging foul fluid without pus, accompanied by severe pain and rapid breathing, it is a difficult case. If it has ruptured with continuous foul pus, an open wound, flesh that is not red and vibrant, accompanied by deficiency-heat and poor appetite, it is an adverse progression.
