First, Tianxing (epidemic pathogenic factors); second, emaciation with qi stagnation; third, anger; fourth, deficiency of kidney qi; fifth, drinking cold wine, consuming roasted and fried foods, taking elixirs.
I observe: Although the causes of the aforementioned conditions differ, their treatment methods should also be differentiated according to meridians, yin and yang, deficiency and excess, exterior and interior, as well as whether the swelling has suppurated. The primary principle is to assist stomach qi and strengthen vital qi, thereby solidifying the root, so that safety can be ensured without danger.

Wu stated: Carbuncles and ulcers all arise from unpredictable joy and anger, unregulated diet, imbalance of yin and yang, disharmony of zang-fu organs, loose interstices, and invasion of cold qi into the meridians. If Ying blood (nutritive blood) is affected by cold, it becomes stagnant and fails to circulate; Wei qi (defensive qi) follows it, contending with the cold, leading to obstruction and blockage. Or if yang qi accumulates, it generates alternating chills and fever; if these do not dissipate, they result in the aforementioned conditions. It is also said: The Shu points of the five zang and six fu organs are all located on the back. Whenever a skin lesion occurs, it easily damages the membrane of the viscera, often leading to untreatable cases. Fu qi is light and floats, moving on the exterior; therefore, carbuncles that are elevated and superficial are easy to treat. Zang blood is heavy and cold, governing the interior; therefore, ulcers that sink inward are difficult to treat. It is also said: "Jie" (boil) refers to a localized lesion at joints; "Yong" (carbuncle) refers to obstruction and congestion; "Ju" (ulcer) refers to blockage and depression. Lesions one to two cun in size are boils; three to five cun are carbuncles; five cun to one chi are ulcers; one to two chi are whole-body ulcers. If the pulse is surging and rapid, it is difficult to treat; if the pulse is faint and choppy, it is easy to treat. At the initial stage, one should clear heat and extract toxins; once ulcerated, one should drain pus and relieve pain; when the pus is exhausted, one should promote tissue regeneration and form scabs. Treatment should be carefully considered based on the severity of the condition and the favorable or unfavorable nature of the symptoms.
I observe: For the aforementioned conditions, if there is reduced appetite and desire for food, use Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) to tonify the spleen and stomach; if ineffective, add Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) to warm and tonify, allowing the pathogenic factor to recede naturally. Cases that fail to manifest are due to excess pathogenic factors and deficiency of healthy qi, preventing eruption; this is typically observed after ten days. If the lesion has already erupted, use Shenxiao Tuoli San (Divine-Efficacy Interior-Supporting Powder) to strengthen yuan qi (original qi) and assist in suppuration and putrefaction; if ineffective, one must warm and tonify the spleen and stomach. Cases that fail to suppurate are due to deficiency of true qi, preventing pus formation; this is typically observed after twenty days. If the lesion has already suppurated and ulcerated, use Tuoli San (Interior-Supporting Powder) to tonify qi and blood and generate muscle tissue; if ineffective, one should specifically tonify the spleen and stomach; if still ineffective, one must warm and tonify the spleen and stomach. Cases that fail to heal and contract are due to deficiency of spleen qi, preventing contraction; this is typically observed after one month. All these treatment methods have been personally verified by me and are detailed in the first discussion.
