Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 6 fen), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 1 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 qian), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1.5 qian), Zhi Ke (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, 5 fen), Bing Lang (Areca Seed, 5 fen), Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 5 fen). Decoct in water, expose overnight, then warm and administer to the infant.
For cases with predominant heat, add Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) and Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae) each at 5 fen; for cases with predominant cold, add Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) at 3 fen; for excessive phlegm, add Bai Jie Zi (Semen Mustardis, 1 qian); for night fever, add He Shou Wu (Radix Polygoni Multiflori).
Su Ye (Folium Perillae, 5 fen), Jie Geng (Radix Platycodonis, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take hot.
If there is phlegm, add Bai Jie Zi (Semen Mustardis, 5 fen).
Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri, 2 qian), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 qian). Grind into fine powder, apply inside the mouth (three times a day), cured in two days. One spoon per application, no more than three times a day.
A divine prescription for treating intestinal parasites in infants; effective against all types of worms.
Fei Zi (Fructus Torreyae, five kernels peeled), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 3 fen). Grind into powder, form pills with rice paste. After consumption, the worms will dissolve into water. Adults may also use this for deworming, as Fei Zi is most effective at killing parasites.
Shi Jun Zi (Fructus Quisqualis, ten kernels peeled and stir-fried until fragrant), Bing Lang (Areca Seed, 1 qian), Fei Zi (Fructus Torreyae, ten kernels peeled), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 3 fen). Grind into powder, form pills with rice paste, size of Sophora japonica seeds.
Jing Feng (Convulsion/Wind-stroke), Gan Ji (Malnutrition due to parasitic infection or improper feeding), Ou Tu (Vomiting), Xie Xie (Diarrhea), refusal to suckle after birth, umbilical discharge not drying, umbilical hernia.
The conditions of Jing Feng, Gan Ji, Ou Tu, and Xie Xie in infants have been discussed; however, these four conditions must be distinguished individually.
People often refer to "Jing Feng" indiscriminately. Few realize that while infants do suffer from "Jing" (startle/spasm), they do not actually suffer from "Feng" (wind pathogen). Infants are bodies of pure Yang and should not harbor wind pathogens, although their symptoms may resemble wind-induced disorders.
Therefore...
Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 3 fen), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 fen), Zhi Zi (Fructus Gardeniae, 3 fen), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 qian), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, 1 qian)...
This formula is the supreme medicine for strengthening the Spleen and pacifying the Liver. When the Liver is pacified, fire dissipates; when the Spleen is strengthened, Jing resolves. By adding herbs that clear fire and resolve phlegm, naturally, upon swallowing the medicine, the convulsions cease.
Dan Nan Xing (Bile Arisaematis Rhizoma), Xiong Huang (Realgar), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Fu Ling (Poria), Tian Zhu Huang (Calamusi Pulvis), Gou Teng (Ramulus Uncariae cum Uncis), Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis), She Xiang (Moschus), Yu Jin (Radix Curcumae Longae), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae). Grind into fine powder, make pills with decoction paste, size of mung beans. Coat with a sheet of real gold, dry in shade, keep airtight.
Gan Zheng (Gan Syndrome) is caused by Spleen Heat, but it is also due to Heart Heat causing extreme Spleen Fire, leading to drooling. If the Heart Fire is not pacified, the Spleen Fire will intensify, causing damp-heat to steam upward, making the drooling difficult to stop immediately.
Lu Hui (Resina Aloe, 1 qian), Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 3 fen), Bo He (Herba Menthae Haplocalycis, 3 fen), Fu Ling (Poria, 2 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 fen), Sang Bai Pi (Cortex Mori Radicis, 1 qian)...
This formula is the supreme medicine for clearing both the Heart and Spleen. It does not merely clear the Spleen; by guiding fire downward, dampness is naturally eliminated. Once damp-heat is removed, the Gan condition heals itself. Vomiting, although due to weak Stomach Qi, is also a manifestation of deficient Spleen Qi. Because infants overeat, food fails to digest, stagnating in the Spleen over time, then rushing into the Stomach, eventually causing severe vomiting. Therefore, treating vomiting requires first treating the Stomach, and treating the Stomach requires first treating the Spleen. I have a miraculous formula for rapid cessation of vomiting, named Ding Tu Tang (Stabilize Vomiting Decoction).
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 qian), Sha Ren (Fructus Amomi Rotundus, one grain), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 fen), Fu Ling (Poria, 2 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 2 fen), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, 1 fen), Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 2 fen).
[Decoct in water and drink], without exception, all recover. This formula is a variation of Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), the supreme medicine for treating the Spleen and Stomach. The Spleen Qi descends naturally, preventing upward vomiting. Moreover, with appropriate modifications and methods for resolving accumulation, how could it fail to produce miraculous results?
Diarrhea is primarily attributed to the Spleen. Theoretically, decoctions can be effective, but diarrhea varies: there is Fire Diarrhea and Cold Diarrhea, which must be distinguished.
In Fire Diarrhea, the infant's body feels like burning fire, with thirst and dry tongue, preferring cold drinks and rejecting hot soups. Using the previous formula would exacerbate the suffering.
I have another miraculous formula named Xie Huo Zhi Xie Tang (Drain Fire Stop Diarrhea Decoction), using:
Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis, 2 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 1 qian), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 qian), Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 3 fen), Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis, 5 fen), Zhu Ling (Poria, 3 qian)...
One dose stops diarrhea. Che Qian Zi, Fu Ling, Ze Xie, and Zhu Ling are supreme medicines for stopping diarrhea by separating fluids and promoting urination; Bai Shao pacifies the Liver to prevent it from overacting on the Spleen; Huang Lian clears Heart Fire to prevent it from assisting Spleen Heat; Mai Ya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus) and Zhi Ke resolve stagnation to unblock water passages. There is no need to forcibly stop diarrhea; it will stop spontaneously.
In Cold Diarrhea, there is abdominal pain relieved by massage, no dry mouth, slippery tongue, preference for hot drinks and rejection of cold beverages. Cold-draining decoctions should not be used; Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) can...
Ren Shen...
Formula uses:
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 2 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 2 qian), Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi, 2 fen), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 fen), Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 2 fen), Sha Ren (Fructus Amomi Rotundus, one grain), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 5 fen). Decoct in water and drink.
This formula uses Ren Shen, Fu Ling, and Bai Zhu, which are divine products for strengthening the Spleen and tonifying Qi, and supreme medicines for separating dampness and promoting urination. Additionally, Rou Gui and Gan Jiang dispel cold, Sha Ren...
Infants refusing to suckle after birth is due to Heart Heat. Brewing milk with scallions for the infant to drink is also good, but better yet, use Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 3 fen), decoct in 1 fen of water, and instill several spoons into the infant; they will immediately suckle, with miraculous effect.
For newborns with non-drying umbilical discharge, stir-fry Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis) until charred, grind into fine powder, and apply externally; it dries immediately.
An umbilical hernia protruding about half an cun in newborns is due to vigorous Qi failing to retract. If not urgently stabilized, it often transforms into opisthotonos. Formula uses:
Fu Ling (Poria, 1 qian), Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 2 fen), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 3 fen), Tong Cao (Medulla Tetrapanacis, 3 fen).
If Tong Cao is unavailable, use a tuft of Deng Xin Cao (Medulla Junci, 1 unit), decoct together in water, and instill. One dose stabilizes the condition; this is a miraculous formula.
