Sputtering blood (hemoptysis) is caused by injury to the Lung. The Lung serves as the canopy of the five Zang organs, possessing a light and hollow structure; it fears heat and dislikes cold, making it susceptible to damage. If treating stagnation-heat in the Lung organ, resulting in blood within phlegm and sputum, accompanied by throat discomfort, the Jisu San (Chicken Mint Powder) formula is appropriate.
