Dry Huoluan (acute abdominal disorder with sudden pain and distension but no vomiting or diarrhea) is caused by cold qi clashing with the intestines and stomach, leading to indigestion. The patient presents only with abdominal fullness, mental restlessness, painful distress, and shortness of breath. Since the intestines and stomach are initially full/excess, there is no vomiting or diarrhea.
For treating Dry Huoluan characterized by absence of vomiting and diarrhea, retention of undigested food, mental restlessness, and abdominal pain, use Muxiang San (Costus Powder):
Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 1 liang) Gaoliangjiang (Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum, 2 liang, cut into small pieces) Caodoukou (Semen Cardamomi Rotundae, 1 liang, skin removed)
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan (approx. 200-250 ml) of water, 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), and 3 dates. Decoct until 6 fen remains, remove dregs.
For treating Dry Huoluan characterized by heart and abdominal pain, shortness of breath and urgency, heaviness in the four limbs, absence of vomiting and diarrhea, and unbearable mental restlessness: this is called Dry Huoluan. If not treated promptly, it will be fatal.
Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum, 2 [or 3] fen, roasted, cracked, and cut) Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 1 liang, cut into small pieces and lightly stir-fried) Badou (Semen Crotonis, 3 seeds, skin and core removed, pounded and pressed between paper to remove oil) Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae, 1 fen, apertures removed, stir-fried)
Pound and sieve the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix evenly with Badou. Combine with refined honey and pound/beaten for 300 strokes to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 15 pills per dose, administered with millet gruel.

Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi, pounded into powder, 1 liang) Helilepi (Pericarpium Chebulae, 0.5 fen [or pounded into powder, 1 fen]) Badou (Semen Crotonis, 1 seed, skin and core removed, pounded and pressed between paper to remove oil)
Exclude Rougui. First, wrap the other two ingredients in silk and soak them in 1 zhong zhan of hot water for a long time. Squeeze out the yellow juice. Then add 1 he (approx. 20 ml) of wine and dissolve the Rougui powder.
For treating Dry Huoluan characterized by absence of vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal distension like a drum, and phlegm-turbidity obstructing the chest and heart, this formula is suitable:
