Sores (Chuang, a term referring to stubborn skin diseases with itching, oozing, and potential parasitic involvement) arise from deficiency in the Couli (pores and interstices of the skin), where wind-damp pathogens invade, causing stagnation and accumulation of blood and Qi. These lesions often appear on the hands and feet, occurring symmetrically, resembling newly formed fruits of *Evodia rutaecarpa* (Wuzhuyu). They present with pain and itching; scratching leads to ulceration, exuding yellow fluid, which spreads and grows. The condition alternates between healing and worsening, with fissures forming, and may even transform to produce parasites, hence the name "Chuang."
For treating wind-heat sores and swelling, use the Loulu San Formula:
Loulu (*Rhizoma Leptadeniae*, 1 liang), Qianghuo (*Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii*, 2 liang), Chuan Shengma (*Rhizoma Cimicifugae*, 1 liang), Mutong (*Caulis Akebiae*, 1 liang, crushed), Zhike (*Fructus Aurantii*, 2 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed), Chishao Yao (*Radix Paeoniae Rubra*, 1 liang), Gancao (*Radix Glycyrrhizae*, 1 liang, honey-fried until slightly red, crushed), Chuan Puxiao (*Natrii Sulfas*, 2 liang), Fangfeng (*Radix Saposhnikoviae*, 2 liang, radix tip removed).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Decoct with one zhongzhan (approx. 200ml) of water until reduced to six-tenths. Strain and take warm after meals.
For treating heat-toxic wind causing skin sores, use the Baihua She San Formula:
Baihua She (*Deinagkistrodon acutus*, 1 snake, skin and bones removed, soaked in wine and roasted until slightly yellow), Fengfang (*Ceraapis*, 3 liang, lightly roasted), Kushen (*Radix Sophorae Flavescentis*, 4 liang, crushed), Fangfeng (*Radix Saposhnikoviae*, 4 liang, radix tip removed), Zhizi (*Fructus Gardeniae*), Xuanshen (*Radix Scrophulariae*, 3 liang), Baijili (*Semen Tribuli*, implied by context though text is fragmented).
Grind the above ingredients finely and sieve into a powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine, after meals.
Another prescription:
Luoke (*Concha Ostreae*, 1 liang, preferably aged/rotten ones), Luankou (*Capillus Humanus Carbonatus*, 0.5 liang, burnt to ash), Longdan Mo (*Radix Gentianae powder*, 0.5 liang), Hufen (*Cerussa*, 0.5 liang).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with rice washing water (gan jiao) and apply topically.
For treating sores and tinea, apply the Shuiyin Gao Ointment:
Shuiyin (*Hydrargyrum*, 1 liang), Bai Fan (*Alumen*, 1 liang), Chuangzizi (*Fructus Cnidii*, 1 liang), Huanglian (*Rhizoma Coptidis*, 1 liang, whiskers removed), Ru (*Root of a specific plant, possibly a textual variant or error, retained as 'Ru'*).
Grind the above into powder. Mix with 7 he (approx. 140ml) of lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month and mercury. Grind until the mercury granules disappear and the ointment forms. Apply externally for excellent efficacy.
For treating damp sores:
Hu Yan Ke (*Hirundo nest*, 1 piece, select the largest and widest part containing eggs, discard the rest).
Grind finely and sieve. First, decoct Gancao (*Radix Glycyrrhizae*) in water, add a little salt, and wash the affected area clean. Dry thoroughly and apply the nest powder. It should heal within two to three days. If it is a malignant sore, mix with vinegar, wrap the area, and change twice daily until healed.
Another prescription:
Burn Jingzhi (*Ramulus Salicis Tataricae* or similar twig) and collect the pyroligneous liquor (tar/oil) for topical application.
Another prescription:
Sheng Jiu (*Allium tuberosum*, fresh, one handful, chopped and mashed).
Soak in 5 he (approx. 100ml) of warm vinegar for a long time. Squeeze out the juice through cloth and apply/wipe onto the sore. Use three to four times daily.
For treating sores and tinea:
Kushen Mo (*Sophora flavescens root powder*, 3 liang).
Mix with honey and apply topically.
For treating tinea and various malignant sores:
Apply 1 he (approx. 20ml) of white dog blood topically; healing occurs immediately.
For treating dry and damp sores/tinea:
Take roots of Liandan (*Melia azedarach*), fresh scallion whites (*Allium fistulosum*), and pig fat. Mash together and apply topically.
