Chest bi (obstruction syndrome in the chest) and shortness of breath are caused by the deficiency of the zang-fu organs, disharmony of yin and yang, and invasion of wind-cold pathogenic factors into the chest. The pulse may be excessive or deficient; yang qi is weak while yin qi is strong, accompanied by stagnation of qi. For treating chest bi and shortness of breath with symptoms such as dyspnea, oppression, and fullness in the heart and diaphragm region, the Xixin San (Asarum Powder) formula is suitable.
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly reddish and crushed), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1.5 liang), Chi Fuling (Poria cum Risus, 1 liang), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 1 liang, stir-baked with bran until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are pulverized and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted with one zhong of water until reduced to six-tenths. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.
For treating chest bi and shortness of breath due to long-standing cold in the zang-fu organs, resulting in pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, distension and fullness in both hypochondria, and dysfunction in the heart and diaphragm region, the Caodoukou San (Cardamomum Rotundum Powder) formula is suitable.
Caodoukou (Cardamomi Rotundi Fructus, 1 liang, peeled), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 liang, processed until cracked, peel and navel removed), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 1 liang), Geng (likely referring to Zhi Gancao or similar stem/root part, 1 liang, remove radicle).
The above herbs are pulverized and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted with one zhong of water and half a fen of fresh ginger until reduced to six-tenths. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.
