For impotence (erectile dysfunction) caused by deficiency consumptive disease, the etiology lies in the connection between Kidney Qi and the genitalia. If the Kidneys are injured, Kidney deficiency fails to nourish the Qi of the genitals, resulting in flaccidity and weakness. Upon pulse diagnosis, if the pulse is floating and weak like the oil on the surface of soup, it indicates deficient Yang Qi; if the pulse is fine and soft like a spider's thread, it indicates declining Yin Qi; if the pulse is minute and weak, it signifies that Wind pathogen has entered the Kidney Meridian, thus causing the inability to achieve an erection.
