Regarding shang han: If a woman contracts the disease, even if recovered for less than one hundred days, intercourse must be avoided. This is a yin-yang yi disease; symptoms will inevitably include spasms and curling of hands and feet to the point of near death. The disease contracted by men is called yin yi, and that by women is called yang yi. It should be treated promptly with sweating methods to recover. If four days pass, it cannot be cured. The patient should take this medicine. Symptoms include heavy body, abdominal urgency, rising heat, heavy head unable to lift, visual obscurations (cataracts/mists), and spasms of the knees and calves.
Take four taels of Gan Jiang (processed Zingiberis Rhizoma) ground into powder, mix with boiling water, and take continuously. Cover with clothes and blankets to induce sweating for relief; once hands and feet extend, recovery occurs.
