Treatment for Liver Malaria (Jueyin Malaria).
Muxiang (Costi Rhizoma), Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn, processed into shavings), Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, processed into shavings, each 1.5 liang), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Zhuling (Polyporus), Binglang (Arecae Semen, each 2.5 liang).
The above are ground into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, administered with warm wine or rice water, twice daily. If there is body heat, remove Gancao (Licorice Root) and Binglang (Arecae Semen), and add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 5 liang).
This refers to the involvement of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Since the Heart and Lung reside alone above the diaphragm and their Qi connects internally, when malaria pathogens invade the Lung and disturb the Heart internally, it results in symptoms of alternating chills and fever accompanied by frightfulness.
Treatment for Lung Malaria, characterized by cold-heat alternation in the heart, frightfulness, and visual hallucinations.

The *Neijing* states that Kidney Malaria (Foot-Shaoyin Malaria), when affecting the meridians, causes vomiting; severely, it presents with alternating chills and fever, where heat predominates over chills, and the patient desires to close doors and windows to stay alone. When affecting the zang organs, it causes a chilling sensation with lower back and spine pain, restlessness, difficulty in defecation, blurred vision, and cold hands and feet. Acupuncture should target the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. This is because the Kidney meridian enters the Lung, and the Lung meridian circles the stomach opening, thus causing vomiting. Yin deficiency leads to Yang excess, hence more heat. The chilling lower back and spine pain, difficulty in defecation, blurred vision, and cold extremities are specifically due to internal deficiency of Zang Qi and dysfunction of the joints/mechanisms, resulting in these syndromes.
