Take two *he* (a traditional unit of volume) of large black soybeans, stir-fry until cooked, add one *qian* of honey-fried licorice root (*Gancao*, 甘草), decoct with one *zhan* (a traditional unit of liquid volume) of water to obtain the juice, and drink it occasionally. *Kua Jianzhi* records: In the spring of the second year of Jingkang, a severe epidemic broke out in the capital. An unusual person wrote this prescription on a wall; using it yielded immediate results.
Soak soybeans, squeeze out the pulp/juice, and wash the affected area daily. Alternatively, adding a small amount of flour to wash the hair is also beneficial. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Another prescription: For symptoms caused by wind-heat, use one *dou* of salt and one *shi* of water, boil to make a decoction for bathing three or four times. It can also treat all kinds of wind-pathogen disorders. (From *Waitai Miyao*)
If the sore is purple-black and swollen, or blackened, rotting, and foul-smelling, or has a black line in the center, eight or nine out of ten cases are fatal. Use forty-nine broad beans, calcined to retain their medicinal properties (burnt but not turned to ash), three *fen* of hair ash, and fourteen pearls, stir-fried and ground into powder. Mix with oil-based rouge and pound into a paste. First, pierce the carbuncle with a hairpin, suck out the bad blood, then apply a small amount of the ointment to the site. The color will immediately turn red and vibrant. This is named "Four Sages Elixir" (*Sisheng Dan*). (From the Secret Prescription of Censor Niu)
If there is a small amount of abnormal pus, resembling soybean juice, which drains today and refills tomorrow, pound rape greens (*Yuntai*, 芸苔), place them in a cloth bag, warm them in hot ashes, and apply alternating compresses to the affected area. No more than two or three applications are needed. If fresh leaves are unavailable, dried ones may be used. Rape greens refer to modern rapeseed/colza. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
This type of carbuncle (*Ju*, 疽) prefers to occur on the hands, feet, shoulders, and back, appearing in clusters like peeled red beans, exuding fluid. Boil rape green leaves to extract juice, consume one *sheng*, and eat several meals of dry, well-cooked vegetables, with a little salt and soy sauce. In winter, grind the seeds, mix with water, and take orally. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Initially resembling prickly heat, it gradually becomes like blisters, feeling as if burned by fire. The sore is red; it can kill rapidly. Pound rape green leaves to extract juice, mix with equal parts of rhubarb (*Dahuang*, 大黄), mirabilite (*Mangxiao*, 芒硝), and raw iron scale (*Shengtieyi*, 生铁衣), and apply topically. (From *Jin Xiao Fang*)
If the pathogen moves up and down to reach the heart, death ensues. Apply mashed pak choi (*Songcai*, 菘菜) to stop it. Pak choi refers to Chinese cabbage. (From Zhang Jie's *Zimu Milu*)
If the disease recurs after healing, and bone protrudes from the wound, mash turnip seeds (*Wujingzi*, 芜菁子) and apply as a poultice. Wrap securely with cloth and change once daily. (From *Qianjin Fang*)
Someone fleeing disaster entered a cave. Bandits tried to smoke him out until he was near death. He felt around and found a bunch of radish greens, chewed them to extract the juice, swallowed it, and revived. (From *Yanshu*, text truncated)
