Answer: Women are the gathering place of all Yin energies and often reside with dampness. After the age of fourteen, Yin energy floats and overflows. Various thoughts pass through the mind, causing internal injury to the Zang-Fu organs and external damage to physical appearance. Evil blood fills the interior, and Qi and meridians are exhausted. Or, due to unregulated diet, multiple injuries occur. Or, postpartum sores have not healed, yet sexual intercourse takes place. Or, while walking in the wind, one defecates on a suspended toilet, allowing wind to enter from below, thereby forming twelve chronic diseases (or alternatively, three chronic diseases). This is why a separate department for women's diseases was established. If illnesses arise from the changes of the four seasons' solar terms, or from deficiency-excess, cold-heat patterns, the treatment methods are the same as those for men. Only when pregnancy is complicated by other diseases must toxic medicines be avoided, lest they harm the fetus. Generally speaking, women are prone to attachment and firmness in emotions such as compassion, attachment, hatred, love, jealousy, worry, and anger, which are difficult to control. Therefore, the root of their disease is deep, and healing is difficult. This is why women suffer from twice as many diseases as men.
Answer: "Tian Gui" refers to the Heavenly Stems Ren and Gui, associated with Water in the North. Ren is Yang Water, pairing with Ding to transform into Wood; Gui is Yin Water, combining with Wu to transform into Fire. The classics state: Water and Fire are the manifestations of Yin and Yang. Since women are the gathering place of all Yin energies, aligning Yin with Yin, they correspond to the Gui stem of Water. At the age of two sevens (fourteen years old), Kidney Qi reaches full maturity, the Chong and Ren meridians flow smoothly, menstrual blood gradually fills up, and descends at the appropriate time. The Tian Zhen (innate) Qi descends specifically to engage with this process, hence it is called "Tian Gui." The *Nei Jing* states: At fourteen, Tian Gui arrives, the Ren Meridian becomes patent, the Tai Chong Meridian flourishes, menstruation occurs regularly, and thus conception is possible. The Chong Meridian serves as the Sea of Blood, and the Ren Meridian governs the uterus. When Yin is still, the sea of blood fills; these two mutually support each other, enabling reproduction.
Answer: When girls reach fourteen, Tian Gui arrives, Kidney Qi matures fully, the Chong and Ren meridians flow, blood gradually fills, and menstruation descends on schedule. It typically occurs once every thirty days; if delayed, it indicates pathology, hence the term "Jing Hou" (Menstrual Period). "Jing" means regularity; "Hou" refers to observing the Yin and Yang of the whole body. The regular Qi arrives waiting for its time, just as tides respond to the moon. The Tian Zhen Qi flows with it, resulting in monthly menstruation. When the body is in harmony, the cycle is not violated, hence it is called "Jing Hou." It is also known as "Yue Shui" (Monthly Water).
