Postpartum diarrhea and dysentery: The prescription has been discussed previously. Generally, this arises because Qi and Blood are suddenly depleted immediately after childbirth; therefore, Shenghua Tang (Birth Recovery Decoction) modified is essential. Previously, postpartum diarrhea and dysentery were not specifically discussed, as they are mostly caused by dietary injury to the Spleen and Stomach. Thus, the treatment methods and prescriptions are repeated here. However, one must first take Shenghua Tang (Birth Recovery Decoction); only after the blood stasis is expelled and pain is relieved can the subsequent formulas be used. Yellow-colored postpartum dysentery indicates deficiency of the true Qi of the Spleen Earth. It is suitable to take Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with Aucklandiae Radix and Myristicae Semen. For chronic dysentery leading to sinking of Yuan Qi (Original Qi), incontinence of feces, and a sensation of anal prolapse, it is suitable to take Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Aucklandiae Radix, Myristicae Semen, and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens.

Wupi Yin (Five Peel Infusion) composition: Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Morus Cortex Alni Radicis, Tugurii Trichosanthis Pericarpium, Poria Cum Ramo Ulmi, and Zingiberis Pericarpium (each 1 qian).
([Wu's Note] It is also appropriate to replace Morus Cortex Alni Radicis with Acanthopanacis Cortex, which is better.)
If these symptoms are accompanied by vomiting, add Huoxiang Pogostemonis Herba. If accompanied by phlegm, add Banxia Pinelliae Rhizoma (0.8 fen). If accompanied by scanty and difficult urination, add Poria (1 qian), Alismatis Rhizoma (0.5 fen), and Juncus Effusus Stem (30 stalks). If diarrhea persists for a long time without stopping, add Nelumbinis Semen (10 grains). If bloody dysentery has excessive blood, add Ginger, Amomi Fructus Rotundus, and Aucklandiae Radix, but do not use in large amounts, as heat-inducing herbs may exacerbate the condition. For chronic dysentery that does not stop, add Renshen Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (1 qian) and Huanglian Coptidis Rhizoma (1 qian), decoct together, and take.
