For anger stirring up Liver Fire, add Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 6 fen) and Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi, 4 fen) to Siqi Tang for decoction.
During pregnancy, if menstruation occurs intermittently, it is due to deficiency of the Chong and Ren vessels, failing to restrain the menstrual blood. If bleeding continues until exhaustion, the fetus will perish. There are also cases where labor followed by irregular emotions, improper diet or lifestyle, invasion by wind-cold pathogens, or disharmony of Qi mechanism lead to spotting.
In leakage of the fetus (Lou Tai), blood is scanty while Qi is relatively deficient, unable to protect against heat damaging the fetus. The pulse is rapid; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) added to Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) is used. This is a sacred herb for calming the fetus, excellent at supporting the fetal root. For weak pulse and blood deficiency, use the complete Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction). For damp-heat, elevate and separate clear from turbid; for Qi deficiency, Ginseng (Renshen) should be used.
Fetal pain arises because pregnant women disregard taboos, either by consuming raw/cold foods or being exposed to wind-cold. Pathogenic factors clash with righteous Qi, moving up and down with Qi dynamics. If attacking the heart, it causes heart pain; if attacking the abdomen, it causes abdominal pain.
Fetal pain clearly indicates damage to fetal Qi, causing the pregnant woman to cry out in prolonged pain. The pulse comes thin and tight, indicating cold or food stagnation with Qi constraint; Suosha Siqi Tang (Amomi Four Seven Decoction) is most effective. For rough or deficient pulses, use... [text incomplete]; for heat pain, stir-fried Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) is used. Pulse diagnosis must distinguish between Yin and Yang syndromes.
Due to the woman's innate weak constitution, presence of wind diseases, or phlegm-fluid retention. Whenever pregnancy occurs, there is often phlegm-dampness. The woman's complexion remains normal, and the pulse is harmonious and smooth. She only feels limb heaviness, loss of appetite, aversion to smells, and craving for sour and salty flavors. Severe cases present with alternating chills and fever, vomiting of phlegm and water. Mild cases need not take medicine; severe cases can be treated with Banxia Tang (Pinellia Decoction) or Fuling Wan (Poria Pill).
