[Da] In women suffering from blood wind (Xue Feng) causing pain in the body and joints, the etiology is due to constitutional deficiency and disharmony of Qi and Blood, allowing Wind pathogen to invade. The manifestation involves Wind pathogen residing in the skin and muscles, traversing the joints, where the pathogenic factor clashes with healthy Qi, resulting in pain.
[Xue] Master Dongyuan stated: Irregular diet leads to Spleen and Stomach deficiency, which is a disease originating in the Blood level; thus, mouth fluids fail to circulate. If Fire-Heat attacks the Earth position (Spleen/Stomach), it causes limb fever and thirst. For Liver channel Blood Heat, use Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Deficiency and Emaciation], Qianghuo, Huangqin, and Huangbai. For Liver channel Blood Deficiency, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) [from Menstrual Regulation], Zhizi, and Chuanxiong. For Wind-Dampness combined with Phlegm, use Siwu Tang, Nanxing, Banxia, Qianghuo, and Cangzhu. For Wind-Dampness injuring the Spleen, use Qianghuo Shengshi Tang (Qianghuo Decoction for Overcoming Dampness) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Lower Back Pain]. For Summerheat-Dampness injuring Qi, use Qingzao Tang (Clear Dryness Decoction) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Summerheat Injury]. For Qi Stagnation affecting Liver and Spleen, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Muxiang, Zhiqiao, and Binglang. For injured Stomach Qi, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Fatigue and Exhaustion]. For Blood stasis flowing and accumulating, use Siwu Tang, Taoren, and Honghua. For bone pain and tendon spasms, use Danggui Moyao Wan (Angelica Sinensis and Myrrh Pill) [from Wood Section]. For fatigue and weakness, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang added with Qianghuo and Chuanxiong.
Case 1: A woman suffered spontaneous sweating and night sweats, fever with afternoon tidal fever, body fatigue, poor appetite, irregular menstruation, and excessive expectoration. Two years later, she experienced generalized pain, worsening on rainy days. This was Qi deficiency with invasion of Wind-Cold. After taking Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Xu Ming Decoction), the pain ceased immediately. Subsequently, taking Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) for over thirty doses cured all symptoms.
Case 2: A woman had irregular menstruation and a history of gout (Tongfeng). Pain occurred upon exertion and was relieved by firm pressure. This indicated dual deficiency of Qi and Blood. Taking Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Complete Tonifying Decoction) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Deficiency and Emaciation] added with Duhuo cured the pain. Taking Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) [from Miscellaneous Diseases: Deficiency and Emaciation] and Xiaoyao San regulated the menses.
Case 3: A woman suffered limb pain, sallow complexion, occasional redness or pallor, fever with aversion to cold, vomiting, diarrhea, poor intake, abdominal pain, hypochondriac distension, irregular menstruation (sometimes resembling metrorrhagia), profuse phlegm with wheezing and cough, dizziness and headache, five-palm heat, thirst for hot drinks, forgetfulness, palpitations, night sweats, and insomnia. Bedridden for over a year, all these signs were attributed to Liver and Spleen depletion and insufficiency of Qi and Blood. Taking Shiquan Dabu Tang and Jiawei Guipi Tang concurrently for over a month cured all symptoms.
