Treats eight types of head wind in men and women, as well as all kinds of headaches, phlegm jue (Phlegm Jue: a condition characterized by sudden loss of consciousness or severe dizziness due to phlegm obstruction), kidney jue (Kidney Jue: a condition involving headache and cold limbs due to kidney yang deficiency), fluid retention jue (Fluid Retention Jue: headache caused by internal fluid accumulation), shang han (Cold Damage: external pathogenic invasion causing fever and aversion to cold), shang feng (Wind Strike: common cold or mild external pathogenic invasion) causing unbearable headaches. All are treated. (Prescription from Mr. Xu Mingzhong)
Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata - *Note: Text specifies raw Sheng*, Aconiti Radix), Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma) [These three herbs are used raw, skin removed], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [Washed with cold water to remove slipperiness], Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) [All used raw, equal parts].
Grind the above into fine powder. Grind fresh juice of Chinese chive (Jiucai, Allii Tuberosi Bulbus) and use it to make pills the size of wutong seeds (pills the size of a loquat seed). Take seven pills per dose, increasing to ten pills. Chew raw scallion (Congbai, Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and swallow with tea. (I once treated Lady Deng who suffered from headache as if her head were breaking; various medicines were ineffective. I added Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) in equal parts and reduced Quanxie (Scorpio) by half to make pills. Taking twenty pills resulted in a cure.)
Symptoms are as described above. However, those with fever should not take this medicine.
Sheng Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata - *Note: Text specifies raw Sheng*, Aconiti Lateralis Radix) [Skin removed], Sheng Wutou (Aconiti Radix) [Skin and tip removed], Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) [Pao/processed], Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 1 liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 3 fen.
Cut the above into small pieces. Take 4 qian per dose. With 2 zhan of water, 7 slices of ginger (Shengjiang, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and a small amount of tea tooth (Cha Ya, Camelliae Sinensis Folium), decoct until 6 fen remains. Strain and take warm before meals. For those with chronic cold in Zhongwan (CV12, Conception Vessel 12), do not use tea tooth.
The Rusheng Bingzi (Like-Sage Cake Pills) from Ju Fang (Imperial Formulary) can be taken by adding Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) in an amount equal to Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma). Self-preparation yields very rapid results.
If headache is accompanied by tendon spasm, heavy body, shortness of breath, hiccups and belching, abdominal fullness, frequent fright, aversion to lying down, cough, and irritability, and the pulse is wiry on light pressure and hard as stone on deep pressure. This is due to insufficiency of Kidney Qi lodging internally, with Qi reversing and moving upward, termed Kidney Jue Headache (Kidney Jue Headache). Yuzhen Wan (Jade True Pill) and Liuhuang Wan (Sulfur Pill) are appropriate.
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) [Crushed and ground], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [Washed and ground into powder], each 1 liang; Liuhuang (Sulfur) 2 liang; Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitratis Crystal) 1 fen [All ground].
Grind evenly. Use fresh juice of ginger (Shengjiang, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) mixed with paste to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 30 pills with ginger soup. Another version has no Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) but includes Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma).
Treats unbearable headache, or long-standing head wind, or acute sudden onset, treating all without exception. Taking this removes the root cause.
Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitratis Crystal) 1 liang, Liuhuang (Sulfur) 2 liang.
Grind the above extremely finely. Add drops of water to make pills the size of a finger. On an empty stomach, chew and swallow with clear waxed tea (La Cha, Camelliae Sinensis Folium). Bai Yi Fang (Hundred One Prescriptions) states: For heatstroke, take with ice water; upon swallowing, one feels refreshed. For cold injury, take with mugwort soup.
If headache extends to the teeth, comes and goes intermittently, and persists for years, this is because wind-cold has penetrated the bone marrow and lingers without departing. The brain is the sea of marrow, so headache occurs, and teeth also hurt. This is called Jue Ni Headache (Reversal Headache). Baifuzi San (White Atropine Powder) is appropriate, and Qubin (GB9, Gallbladder 9) acupoint should be moxa-burned. This acupoint is located above the ear. Cover the front tip of the ear with the earlobe; moxa-burn 7 cones. If pain is on the left, moxa-burn the left side; if on the right, moxa-burn the right side.
