Treats postpartum wind-stroke, presenting with symptoms of mental confusion, slurred speech, and impaired mobility of the four limbs. Tianma Wan (Gastrodia Pill).
Tianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii) (each 1 liang); Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried) (3 fen), Ganxie (Scorpio, stir-fried), Baifuzi (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Praeparata, processed until cracked), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung, each 0.5 liang); Xiongquefen (Excrement of Male Sparrow, stir-fried), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) (each 1 fen).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds using soft glutinous rice paste. To administer, grind 15 pills in Bohe Jiu (Mint Wine) and take orally.
The treatise states: Why does excessive lochia discharge after childbirth lead to extreme deficiency generating internal wind? The answer is: Women rely on Ying Blood (Nutritive Blood) as their foundation. Due to excessive blood loss during childbirth, Qi loses its anchor. This presents with cyanotic lips, cold flesh, sweating, dizziness, and coma, with life hanging in the balance. This is merely internal wind generated by extreme deficiency. In such cases, one should urgently administer Jiwei Shangdan (Emergency Rescue Upper Elixir). Using wind-dispelling herbs for treatment would be a mistake.
Ruxiang (Frankincense, crushed), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung), Liuhuang (Sulfur), Xuanjingshi (Nephrite, ground together extremely fine), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), Juanbai (Serpylli Herba, raw), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Caulis), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (equal parts).
First, grind the first four ingredients together uniformly. Stir-fry lightly in a silver or porcelain vessel over low heat, ensuring they do not burn. Grind again until extremely fine, then add the remaining herbs and grind into powder. Mix with juice of Sheng Dihuang (Fresh Rhizoma Rehmanniae) to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, administered before meals with warm wine or Danggui Jiu (Angelica Sinensis Wine).
Regarding persistent spontaneous sweating due to deficiency: It arises because Yin Qi is deficient while Yang Qi invades, resulting in interior deficiency and exterior excess. Yang Qi alone disperses outward, causing sweating. Blood belongs to Yin; childbirth injures blood, constituting Yin deficiency. Qi belongs to Yang; if Qi is substantial, Yang adds to Yin, causing sweating. If Yin Qi remains weak and fails to recover, sweating will persist incessantly. Generally, both Blood and Qi are deficient after childbirth, leading to profuse sweating. If exposed to Wind pathogen, it may transform into Jing disease (spasticity/tetany). Even if spasticity does not develop, there will be weakness, shortness of breath, emaciation, dry lips and mouth. Over time, menstruation may cease due to exhaustion of Jin-Ye (Body Fluids). (This can also be found in Volume 3, Treatise 6).
