For women with blood stasis in the abdomen, it is caused by dysmenorrhea or obstruction of menstruation, or by residual lochia remaining after childbirth. If one exposes oneself to wind and cold while seeking coolness, the pathogenic wind-cold invades the body. Blood congeals into blood stasis when exposed to cold. When blood stasis remains inside, it causes frequent low-grade fever and sallow complexion; if the stasis persists for a long time without resolving, it transforms into accumulations and masses (zheng jia).
*Gouyi San* (Carp Scale Powder):
*Tabanidae Insect* (*Mengchong*), *Leech* (*Shuizhi*), *Sepiae Endoconcha* (*Wuzeigu*), *Cyprini Carpio Scales* (burned to ash), *Genkwa Flos* (stir-fried with vinegar), *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (*Zhiqiao*), *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (stir-fried), *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix*, *Paeoniae Radix Rubra*, *Amomi Fructus Rotundus* (*Sharen*), *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (*Guixin*) (each 0.5 liang), *Persicae Semen* (3 fen).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Before meals, take 1 qian mixed with warm wine.
*Taohe Chengqi Tang* variant (contextual name inferred from ingredients, but text describes a pill):
Treats blood stasis in the abdomen of women, irregular menstruation, intermittent flow, and fullness/urgency in the heart and abdomen.
*Persicae Semen*, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (stir-fried, each 3 liang), *Tabanidae Insect* (stir-fried, wings and feet removed), *Leech* (40 pieces each, stir-fried until charred).
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 5 pills per dose, swallowed with hot wine. If ineffective, increase to 8 pills.
For women suffering from zheng and pi disorders, it is due to imbalance of cold and heat, and irregular diet. Accumulations form in the abdomen or between the intestines and stomach, knotting with the qi of the zang organs. Hard, firm masses that cannot be moved by pushing are called "zheng," indicating that the pathological form is verifiable. Qi obstruction causing distension is called "pi," indicating qi stagnation and lack of free flow. Both conditions are triggered by cold, causing stabbing pain. The nature of zheng and pi diseases is cold coagulation. If cold qi enters the uterus (zang), it leads to infertility. If cold qi enters the uterine collaterals (bao luo) and knots with blood, the blood becomes stagnant due to cold, also resulting in amenorrhea.
*Chuanshanjia San* (Pangolin Scale Powder):
Treats zheng and pi disorders and evil blood in women, where qi attacks causing heart and abdominal pain, pallor, and emaciation of the four limbs.
