To treat women with metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), continuous for many days. (From the prescription of Lady Xia Taijun)
Take Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie Sui), place it in a lamp dish, add plenty of Juncus effusus (Dengxincao), ignite with good sesame oil as fuel, and roast the Schizonepetae until charred black over the flame. Grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian each time, mixed with child's urine (Tongbian).
To treat women with Xueshan Beng (severe uterine hemorrhage), continuous bleeding. (From "Experience Prescription")
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (remove the forked rhizome base).
Take an appropriate amount of Saposhnikoviae Radix, grind into fine powder, decoct with wine, mix with clear wheat flour paste, and take 2 qian orally. Take on an empty stomach, before meals, twice daily. Additionally, make a paste with flour and administer with wine; this is extremely effective.
The above three prescriptions do not seem to be purely hemostatic drugs. For instance, Wulingzhi (Five-tiger Resin), Jingjie (Schizonepeta), and Fangfeng are all wind-dispelling herbs. However, wind is a pathogenic factor that moves; when the Chong and Ren meridians are deficient, they are injured by wind, leading to sudden massive uterine bleeding (Bengzhong Baoxia). I once read Scholar Xu's "Shanghan Mai Ge" which states: "A pulse that is floating and large indicates wind injuring the Ying level." Ying refers to blood. Thus, using these herbs made me realize how profound the insights of the ancients were!
Another prescription: Shu Ai Ye (Processed Mugwort Leaf) (size of a chicken egg) Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (ban liang) Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (1 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into coarse powder. Add five bowls of water, first decoct the Mugwort Leaf and Dried Ginger until reduced to two and a half bowls. Add the Donkey-hide Gelatin and stir until dissolved. Take warm, divided into two doses. Take on an empty stomach, finish within one day.
Another prescription: Niu Jiao (Buffalo Horn) Hai Piao Xiao (Cuttlefish Bone) (each 1 fen) She Xiang (Musk) (1 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix evenly with Musk. Take 1 qian bi (a spoonful measure) mixed with wine, two to three times daily.
To treat women with continuous uterine bleeding due to metrorrhagia.
Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark), amount unspecified. Lightly roast in a pot to preserve its properties. Grind into powder. Take 1-2 qian each time, mixed with rice drink (Mi Yin).
Another prescription: To treat metrorrhagia with lower bleeding. (From "Ben Shi Fang")
Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), amount unspecified. Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian each time, mixed with Pili Jiu (Thunderbolt Wine).
Scholar Xu said: Metrorrhagia is mostly treated with hemostatic and blood-nourishing herbs. This prescription treats Yang invading Yin, as previously mentioned regarding "summer heat and hot earth causing menstrual waters to boil and overflow." Recently, Imperial Physician Wang was awakened during his night shift; suddenly, a palace maid suffered from bleeding like a mountain collapse. It was then summer month, and only two packets of Dashun San were left in the medicine box. Mixed with cold water and taken orally, it took effect immediately. This shows the flexibility of medical treatment. Jin Hua San is wonderful.
