When a woman suffers from metrorrhagia accompanied by severe heart pain, it is called "Sha Xue Xin Tong" (Blood-Killing Heart Pain). This also applies when severe heart pain results from excessive blood loss after miscarriage.
Wuzhuiyu Mo (Sepiae Endoconcha), stir-fried, taken with vinegar broth. (This fish has ink sacs inside its body; upon seeing a person pass by, it ejects ink to conceal itself.)
Discussion: Metrorrhagia in women arises from damage to the zang-fu organs, injury to the Chong and Ren meridians, and deficiency of both blood and qi. The Chong and Ren meridians are the "Sea of Meridians"; the movement of blood and qi circulates externally along the collaterals and nourishes the zang-fu internally. Without injury, yin and yang are harmonious, blood and qi are regulated, and menstruation occurs on schedule. If overexertion causes damage to all zang-fu organs, the qi of the Chong and Ren becomes deficient and fails to constrain the menstrual blood, resulting in sudden profuse bleeding, termed "Beng Zhong Bao Xia" (Sudden Profuse Bleeding of Metrorrhagia). Pulse diagnosis reveals a faint and slow pulse at the Cun Kou position, and a faint and wiry pulse at the Chi position. A faint and slow pulse at Cun Kou indicates cold in the Upper Jiao, manifesting as vomiting. A faint and wiry pulse at Chi position suggests lower abdominal pain. If this pain radiates to the waist and spine, bleeding will inevitably occur.
If menstruation is excessively heavy, progressing to metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, with bright red blood resembling water, heat exacerbates irritability, and severe cases lead to syncope. A rapid, frequent, and thin pulse is favorable, whereas a large and excessive pulse is unfavorable. This condition results from the struggle between yin and yang, where heat pathogens attack and injure the Chong and Ren meridians. Blood becomes dispersed when heated, similar to how river water boils and overflows under scorching sun and earth. When yang is injured by yin, leading to bleeding, yin should be tonified. Suitable prescriptions include Xiaoji Tang (Small Thistle Decoction) and Ajia Wan (Ejiao Pill).
