Treats women with irregular menstruation (menstrual bleeding at any time) accompanied by abdominal pain.
Bibo (Piperis Longi Fructus, stir-fried with salt, remove salt and grind into powder) Puhuang (Lygodii Spora, one tael each, stir-fried)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, and make pills using refined honey, sized like wu tong zi (sterculia lychnophora seeds). Take 30-40 pills per dose, swallowed with salt water and rice decoction after meals.
The cause of continuous menstrual bleeding in women is damage to essence and blood, leading to deficiency and injury of the Chong and Ren meridians. The Chong and Ren meridians are the sea of the twelve meridians. The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart meridian are exteriorly-interiorly related and govern menstruation from below. If the meridians are injured by overwork, causing Qi deficiency in the Chong and Ren meridians, they cannot control the menstrual blood, resulting in continuous menstruation. If sexual intercourse occurs while menstruation has not stopped, cold Qi will ascend into the zang organs, causing the body and face to appear sallow and withered, and also leading to infertility.
If menstruation comes and goes intermittently, or drips continuously, with occasional abdominal pain and a deep, thin pulse, this is due to cold and heat pathogenic factors lodging in the uterus, causing disharmony of the Chong and Ren meridians. This is not a deficiency syndrome, but rather pathogenic factors lingering and stagnating in the Blood Sea. It is similar to patients with accumulation who have intermittent diarrhea; symptoms improve once the accumulation is expelled. Mudan Wan (Moutan Pill) is suitable.
Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Mumeng (unknown, possibly a variant or specific preparation), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, steamed), Tingli (Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae, stir-fried), Kugeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fuling (Poria, half tael each), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zhi Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, stir-fried until oil appears), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Beichaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, half tael each), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, half tael each), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, one tael and half), Mengchong (Blattidae, fifty pieces, remove head, feet, and wings, stir-fried)
