Women possess qi, blood, yin, and yang, and their zang-fu organs have conditions of excess and deficiency. Excess generates heat; deficiency allows pathogenic factors to invade. When pathogenic heat enters the body, yin and yang, cold and heat, mutually overcome each other. The so-called "guest heat" (Ke Re) refers to heat arising because the constitution is weak and has been over-warmed, or external heat has been added, rather than heat generated spontaneously by the zang-fu organs. Hence it is called "guest heat." Its manifestations include empty heat in the upper jiao between the chest and diaphragm, dry mouth, irritability, and intense heat in the hands and feet.
