Discussion states: Postpartum dysentery accompanied by thirst. The essence of food and drink transforms into blood, qi, and body fluids to nourish the zang-fu organs. When the zang-fu are deficient and dry, dysentery and thirst occur.
If one drinks water to quench thirst, it may be difficult to stop, and instead, fluid retention may overflow. Since the spleen and stomach are deficient, they cannot control water; water flows freely and soaks the skin, causing edema. If the thirst is stopped, the dysentery will heal itself.
