Sudden redness, swelling, and pain of the breast, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, indicates the formation of Ru Yong (Breast Abscess). If during breastfeeding, the breast is exposed to the infant's breath causing nodules and hardness with obstruction, it is named Chuili (Blown Breast). Initial nodules that are not painful or swollen, which ulcerate internally after many years, are named Ruyan (Breast Cancer/Tumor), a ominous condition. Sores on the nipple are named Dulru (Jealous Breast). Long, thin, drooping, and painful breasts are named Xuanru (Hanging Breast).
[Note] When a woman’s breast suddenly becomes red, swollen, hard, and painful, accompanied by aversion to cold, high fever, and headache, this indicates impending Ru Yong (Breast Abscess). If during nursing, the breast is affected by the infant's breath causing blockage of milk ducts and nodules, it is called Chuili (Blown Breast). Another type involves nodules within the breast like Go pieces, neither swollen nor painful, but hard and unyielding, which ulcerate internally over time; this is called Ruyan (Breast Cancer/Tumor), a very ominous syndrome. Small sores on the nipple with pain are called Dulru (Jealous Breast). If Blood Stasis attacks upward, causing the breast to suddenly become small, droop, and hang longer than the abdomen, it is called Xuanru (Hanging Breast), occurring only postpartum.
