Zisu Yin (Perilla Decoction)
Distension and fullness in the chest and diaphragm are named "Zixuan" (Fetal Suspension); severe asthma is caused by fetal Qi pressing upward against the Heart. Zisu Yin consists of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Dafupi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Sugengye (Perillae Caulis et Folium), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). For deficiency patterns, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and decoct for administration.
[Note] When a pregnant woman experiences distension and fullness in the chest and diaphragm, it is called "Zixuan." If accompanied by severe asthma, it is called "Taishang Bixin" (Fetal Qi Pressing Against the Heart). Both conditions are suitable for treatment with Zisu Yin, which comprises Danggui, Chuanxiong, Baishao, Chenpi, Dafupi, Sugengye, and Gancao. In cases of deficiency, add Renshen and decoct for use.
Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder) Gouteng Tang (Uncaria Decoction)
Sudden collapse with convulsions and loss of consciousness, followed by spontaneous awakening after a short while, is named "Zixian" (Eclampsia). Lingyangjiao San is indicated, containing Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Wujapi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Gancao, Yiyiren (Coicis Semen), Fuling (Poria), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), and Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu). For severe convulsions, Gouteng Tang is used, consisting of Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba), Renshen, Fushen (Poria cum Radix), Danggui, and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). If deviation of the mouth and eye or hemiplegia occurs, it has progressed to a stroke paralysis syndrome; treatment should refer to the Wind Gate chapter.
[Note] When a pregnant woman suddenly falls into convulsions and loses consciousness, then awakens spontaneously after a moment, and shortly thereafter returns to normal, this is termed "Zixian." It is caused by wind-heat affecting the Liver and Heart meridians. Lingyangjiao San is appropriate, comprising Fangfeng, Duhuo, Xingren, Suanzaoren, Wujapi, Gancao, Yiyiren, Fuling, Muxiang, and Lingyangjiao. For severe convulsions, Gouteng Tang is employed, containing Gouteng, Sangjisheng, Renshen, Fushen, Danggui, and Jiegeng. If facial deviation and hemiplegia develop, it constitutes a stroke disability pattern; one should consult the Wind Gate section for management.
Zhijie Erchen Tang (Bitter Orange and Citrus Decoction Modified) Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction)
Cough during pregnancy is named "Zisou" (Pregnancy Cough), often due to Yin deficiency, phlegm-fluid retention, or contraction of wind-cold. For phlegm-fluid retention, modify Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) with Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) and Jiegeng. For wind-cold contraction, Jiegeng Tang can provide relief, containing Zisuye (Perillae Folium), Jiegeng, Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Sangbaipi (Morus Cortex), Xingren, Chi Fuling (Poria with Red Coating), Tiandong (Asparagi Radix), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), Chuanbeimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), and Qianhu (Peucedani Radix). For chronic cough due to Yin deficiency, nourishing Yin and moistening the Lung with clearing-moistening methods is suitable; Maiwei Dihuang Tang (Lycium, Schisandra, and Rehmannia Pill) will lead to recovery.
[Note] Cough during pregnancy is called "Zisou"; prolonged coughing may injure the fetus. Etiologies include hyperactive fire due to Yin deficiency with upward reversal of phlegm-fluid, or contraction of wind-cold. For those caused by phlegm-fluid, treat with Erchen Tang modified with Zhike and Jiegeng. For those caused by wind-cold, use Jiegeng Tang, composed of Zisuye, Jiegeng, Mahuang, Sangbaipi, Xingren, Chi Fuling, Tiandong, Baihe, Chuanbeimu, and Qianhu. If the cough persists and belongs to Yin deficiency, nourish Yin and moisten the Lung using clearing-moistening therapy with Maiwei Dihuang Tang.
