The above four ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove the dregs, and take warm. If a patient suddenly experiences cold extremities (Jue), they will develop high fever. Those who had fever previously will inevitably experience Jue later; severe Jue corresponds to severe fever, while mild Jue corresponds to mild fever. Treat with Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) to guide out the pathogen. If the disease presents with hardness and pain in the chest and abdomen, sweating on the forehead, and cold extremities, this is Food Jue (Food-induced Cold Extremities). It is appropriate to induce vomiting urgently. If sweating or purgation is mistakenly used, Yin deficiency leads to sudden collapse of Yang, the pathogen remains unresolved, and if irritability occurs, Fuling Sini Tang (Poria Decoction for Reversing Cold) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Fuling Sini Tang (Poria Decoction for Reversing Cold)
Fuling (Poria, 5 fen) Renshen (Ginseng, 2 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 fen) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 5 fen) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 5 fen)
The above five ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove the dregs, and divide into warm doses. If vomiting and purging have ceased, but there is sweating and cold extremities, and limb rigidity and cramping persist, with a faint pulse nearly imperceptible, Tongmai Sini Tang with Pig Bile Decoction (Decoction for Restoring Pulse with Added Pig Bile) should be administered as the primary treatment. In Shaoyin syndrome (Syndrome of the Lesser Yin), with a floating pulse, sweating, frequent urination, irritability, slight aversion to cold, and cramping of the feet, administering Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) to attack the exterior is an error. This may lead to immediate cold extremities, dryness in the throat, irritability, and vomiting/reversal. Prepare Ganjiang Gancao Tang (Ginger and Licorice Decoction) to administer to the patient.
To restore Yang Qi. Formula: Ganjiang Gancao Tang (Ginger and Licorice Decoction)
Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 3 fen)
The above two ingredients. Chop, use one sheng of water, boil to obtain seven ge, remove the dregs, and divide into warm doses. If sweating fails to resolve the disease and aversion to cold worsens, it is due to deficiency. If there is limb cramping and slight cold extremities, Shaoyao Gancao Fuzi Tang (Peony, Licorice, and Aconite Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Shaoyao Gancao Fuzi Tang (Peony, Licorice, and Aconite Decoction)
Shaoyao (White Peony Root, 2 qian) Gancao (Licorice Root, 5 fen) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 5 fen)
The above three ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove the dregs, add one spoonful of honey, and divide into warm doses. For Wujue (Roundworm-induced Cold Extremities), roundworms should be vomited up. The patient becomes quiet but experiences intermittent irritability because of internal cold causing roundworms to ascend to the diaphragm, hence the irritability, which stops after a moment. Vomiting and irritability upon eating occur because roundworms emerge smelling food odor; the patient will likely vomit roundworms spontaneously. Wu Mei Wan (Mume Pill) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Wu Mei Wan (Mume Pill)
Wumei (Dark Plum Fruit, 200 pieces) Xixin (Asarum, 6 liang) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 10 liang) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 jin) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 4 liang) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 6 liang, processed) Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, 4 liang, seeds removed) Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 6 liang) Renshen (Ginseng) Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, each 6 liang)
The above ten ingredients. Pound and sieve separately, then mix. Soak Wumei in vinegar overnight, remove pits, steam over five sheng of rice until cooked, pound into paste, mix with other medicines, place in a mortar, and beat with honey two thousand times. Form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take ten pills before meals with drink, three times daily, gradually increasing to twenty pills. Avoid raw, cold, slippery, and strong-smelling foods. If a patient has abdominal fullness, body heat, lies tiredly facing down, with a fine and rapid pulse, even if the abdomen is hard, do not purge. Chaihu Pingwei Tang (Bupleurum and Stomach-Pacifying Decoction) is appropriate.
Formula: Chaihu Pingwei Tang (Bupleurum and Stomach-Pacifying Decoction)
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, 5 fen) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 3 fen) Renshen (Ginseng, 3 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 5 fen) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 2 fen) Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, 3 fen) Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, 5 fen) Houpo (Magnolia Bark, 5 fen)
The above nine ingredients. Chop, use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, divide into warm doses, and take frequently. Recurrent tidal fever, hard abdomen with muscle wasting, transitioning into Gancancer (Childhood Malnutrition Syndrome), which is a damaged disease, Xiao Ganc Tang (Eliminate Gancancer Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
For Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption) with palpitations and epistaxis, slight body heat, and sore limbs, Danggui Jianzhong Tang (Angelica Middle-Nourishing Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Danggui Jianzhong Tang (Angelica Middle-Nourishing Decoction)
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 5 fen) Shaoyao (White Peony Root, 5 fen) Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 3 fen) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 2 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen) Dazao (Jujube, 2 pieces)
The above six ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, add Yimi (Malt Sugar), simmer gently until dissolved, take three he warm, three times daily. For dual deficiency of Qi and Blood, fluctuating constrained fire, chest hardness with abdominal weakness, shortness of breath, and palpitations, also treating blurred vision, Gouqi Lianggan Tang (Goji Liver-Cooling Decoction) is appropriate.
Formula: Gouqi Lianggan Tang (Goji Liver-Cooling Decoction)
Gouqi (Goji Berry) Houpo (Magnolia Bark) Xiangfuzi (Cyperus Rhizome, each 1 qian) Fuling (Poria, 2 qian) Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) Gancao (Licorice Root, each 5 fen)
The above nine ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, divide into warm doses. For emaciation, waist and abdominal cramping, heavy limbs, dry throat and lips, pale complexion, and insufficient pulses, Huangjianzhong Tang (Yellow Middle-Nourishing Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment. For recurrent body heat consuming Qi and Blood, if accompanied by irritability and thirst, whether true heat or false heat, Jiji Tang (Water-Fire Balance Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Jiji Tang (Water-Fire Balance Decoction)
Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root, 5 qian, crushed) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 5 fen)
The above two ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, divide into warm doses. If thirst is severe, take cold; for true heat add Shigao (Gypsum), for false heat add Ren Niao (Human Urine), for delirium add Chen Sha (Cinnabar). For blood dryness, evening tidal fever, panting cough, and phlegm rattle in the throat, Lujiaocai Tang (Deer Antler Vegetable Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Lujiaocai Tang (Deer Antler Vegetable Decoction)
Lujiaocai (Deer Antler Vegetable) Biejia (Turtle Shell) Niupixiao (Stemona Root, each 2 qian) Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, 5 fen) Zhugu (Bamboo Mucilage, 3 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen)
The above six ingredients. Use one sheng of water, boil five ingredients reducing by three ge, remove dregs, add Xijiao, stir well, and take warm. In Shaoyin syndrome, if unrelieved after two to three days, progressing to four to five days with abdominal pain, difficult urination, heavy painful limbs, and spontaneous diarrhea, this indicates Water Qi retention. If there is cough, clear urination, diarrhea, or vomiting, Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction)
Fuling (Poria, 5 fen) Shaoyao (White Peony Root, 5 fen) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, 3 fen) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 3 fen) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 3 fen)
The above five ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, divide into warm doses. For severe rebellious Qi rising upward and unfavorable throat condition requiring descending rebellious Qi, Maidong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Maidong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction)
Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber, 5 fen) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 5 fen) Renshen (Ginseng, 3 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 fen) Jingmi (Rice, 5 fen) Dazao (Jujube, 3 pieces)
The above six ingredients. Use one sheng of water, boil to obtain seven ge, divide into warm doses. Extreme heat causing dry mouth and delirium approaching death indicates extreme Yang. Cold extremities with Zhengsheng (repetitive low speech) and palpitations approaching death indicate extreme Yin. Diseases belonging to Yin, with weak Spleen Qi, dry mouth, vomiting without eating, and a tongue resembling bird meat, is named Ru She (Moist Tongue); try Qianshi Tang (Euryale Seed Decoction) as the primary treatment.
Formula: Qianshi Tang (Euryale Seed Decoction)
Qianshi (Euryale Seed, lightly fried, 5 fen) Shenye (Ginseng Leaf, 3 fen) Lianrui (Lotus Plumule, 5 fen)
The above three ingredients. Use one sheng of water, boil to obtain seven ge, remove dregs, divide into warm doses, take with Ginger Juice. In Shanghan (Cold Damage) or dysentery, although external heat slightly resolves, Spleen Qi loses its transport function, and appetite is lost; chewing Tongduan (Paulownia Stem) can prolong Stomach Qi. Diseases originating from Yang, lingering for many days, often have good omens; diseases originating from Yin, lingering for many days, often have bad omens. Diseases moving from outside show signs at the nose; diseases moving from inside show signs at the mouth. For patients with emaciation, weak Spleen, faint pulse, and difficulty ingesting food, Luobo Zhou (Radish Porridge) is appropriate.
Formula: Luobo Zhou (Radish Porridge)
Chenmi (Aged Rice, any amount) Luobo (Radish, peeled and mashed, equal parts to rice)
The above two ingredients. First boil aged rice in water to make thin porridge, add radish, mix well, boil again for four or five boils. Excess causes delirium, deficiency causes Zhengsheng. Zhengsheng is repetitive speech. Severe cases involve grasping at empty air or touching clothes, indicating dual defeat of Qi and Blood; Yingrong Tang (Nourish Glory Decoction) should be administered as the primary treatment.
Formula: Yingrong Tang (Nourish Glory Decoction)
Renshen (Ginseng, 3 fen) Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 3 fen) Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber, 5 fen) Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry, 5 fen) Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 5 fen) Dihuang (Rehmannia Root, 5 fen) Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen)
The above seven ingredients. Use two sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, divide into warm doses. For deficient rebellion, add Human Urine; for cold extremities, add Fuzi. If a patient is distressed but suddenly stops eating, it is treatable; if there is no distress but appetite gradually disappears, even if they can eat a little now, it is untreatable. For children with abdominal masses, chest fullness, urine like rice wash, tight/stringy/fine/rapid pulse, or able to eat but still emaciated, it is untreatable. For children with bone-steaming tidal fever, thin neck, large abdomen, spiritless eyes, and slight swelling of the dorsum of feet, death ensues. For roundworm Jue with screaming, irritability/thirst with coma, if pinching does not wake them, it is a sign of death. For cold extremities, irritability/thirst, red face, continuous vomiting/diarrhea, and bloody urine, it is untreatable. Disease states change with time; if worse in morning and better in evening, but with chest/hypochondriac cramping leading to cold extremities when severe, this is Epileptic Jue; Sini San (Four Counterflow Powder) should be administered as the primary treatment. Liu Gan Jia Jia Yi San (Willow Liver with Added Malt Sugar Powder) also treats this.
Formula: Sini San (Four Counterflow Powder)
Gancao (Licorice Root) Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) Shaoyao (White Peony Root)
The above four ingredients. Each ten parts, pound and sieve. Mix with white drink (rice water), take one cun bi (square inch measure). Or add Jia Yi (Malt Sugar), mix well, and take. For patients who are emaciated, with faint pulse, depressed red face resembling drunkenness, cold limbs, lip smacking, and finger picking, this is Yang collapse. For patients with body heat, inability to eat, but desire for alcohol, give small amounts, but do not let them drink to excess. After resolution of various diseases, Spleen Qi must be weak; diet must be cautious. Wrongful feeding causes food relapse. In summer, abdominal pain, irritability, sudden diarrhea, sudden cold extremities, eye rolling, and impending collapse of Yuan Yang constitute Direct Invasion (Zhi Zhong); moxibustion is indicated. If Yang recovers, life is saved; if not, death ensues. Such ailments are mostly collapse syndromes; during spring-summer transition, take Spleen-strengthening agents. This is prevention. Why? Because diseases originate from vomiting and diarrhea. For Food Jue, severe abdominal pain with tossing and turning, knotted pulse approaching death, requiring vomiting/diarrhea, Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) should be administered as the primary treatment. For sudden diarrhea and sudden Jue, faint pulse, forehead sweat, moxa Tian Shu and Yong Quan points. If Jue does not return, pulse does not beat, and slight panting occurs, death ensues. For patients with agitation, profuse sweating, and surging Yin/Yang pulses, death ensues. For emaciation, reduced food intake, deficient Yin/Yang pulses, and unresolved body heat, death ensues. For labor relapses occurring two or three times, whether self-resolving or treated by striking Tian He (Heavenly Harmony point/method), all are untreatable. For patients with floating/surging pulse, oily sweat, incessant panting, inability to take fluids, insensitivity of body, alternating calmness/confusion, this is Life Collapse.
