Chao Yuanfang stated: Enuresis occurs due to cold in the Bladder (Bladder), which fails to restrain water. The Kidney (Kidney) governs water metabolism, and Kidney Qi (Kidney Qi) connects downward to the external genitalia. Urine is the residue of water; the Bladder (Bladder) is the mansion of body fluids. Since the cold qi is weak and unable to restrain water, enuresis results.
Shi Tan said: Bedwetting in children is caused by cold in the Bladder (Bladder). Night belongs to Yin; when urine is incontinent, it flows out spontaneously during sleep. It is appropriate to treat with Pogostemon Powder (Pogostemon San), and astringent and kidney-warming agents should not be omitted.
Pogostemon Powder (Pogostemon San): Treats bedwetting in children at night, caused by cold in the Bladder (Bladder). Night belongs to Yin, leading to urinary incontinence and spontaneous emission during sleep.
Composition: Pogostemonis Fructus (Guzhi, 破故纸) - one ingredient, stir-fried, ground into powder, taken with hot boiled water.
Another prescription:
Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus (Yizhiren, 益智仁) (raw), Poria (Fuling, 白茯苓) (peeled), Poria Cum Radix Polypori (Fushen, 茯神) (peeled), equal parts.
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Take on an empty stomach mixed with clear tea water. This formula also treats white turbidity.
Yet another prescription:
Chinese Gall (Wubeizi, 五倍子) - half raw, half charred but retaining its nature.
Grind into powder. Form pills using snow sugar. Take thirty pills per dose with rice drink.
Shi Tan said: White urine in children is caused by irregular breastfeeding or weaning, which excessively damages the Spleen (Spleen). Consequently, clear and turbid fluids fail to separate, resulting in urine as white as rice washings. If prolonged, it may develop into infantile malnutrition (Gan syndrome). It may also result from latent heat in the Heart (Heart) and Spleen (Spleen). Treatment should involve regulating Spleen Qi, resolving food stagnation, and promoting urination through the Small Intestine (Small Intestine) and Large Intestine (Large Intestine). Poria Powder (Fuling San) is the primary formula. Sanleng Powder (Sanleng San) and Digestion-Resolving Pills (Xiaoshi Wan) can be selected for use, and Liqing Decoction (Liqing Yin) is also suitable.
Poria Powder (Fuling San): Treats white urine resembling rice washings in children, caused by irregular feeding damaging the Spleen (Spleen), leading to failure to separate clear from turbid fluids.
