Pediatric convulsions occur irregularly, with eyes rolling upward or moving. The condition resembles possession by spirits, with the head and eyes gazing upward, termed "Tian Diao" (Heavenly Fishing), which is also a symptom of Jing Feng (Convulsive Disease). It is suitable to administer Jiu Kong Tan San (Nine Dragons' Phlegm-Draining Powder).
Bixia Dan (Cinnabar Pill) treats sudden onset of acute wind in males and females, dizziness and fainting, phlegm-saliva obstruction, mental confusion and oppression, five types of epilepsy, tidal flow of saliva with spasms, locked jaw, upward deviation of the eyes, and other symptoms.
Shi Lv (Malachite Green) (calcined over fire, quenched in vinegar nine times, ground and sifted, 10 liang) Fuzi Jian (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata tip, peeled) Wutou Jian (Aconiti Radix tip, peeled) Xie Shao (Scorpio tail segment, 70 each)
The above three ingredients are ground into powder, mixed evenly with Shi Lv. Form pills using wheat paste, sized like a chicken egg. For each dose, dissolve one pill in half a cup of Bohe Zhi (Peppermint Juice). Add a small amount of wine and take warm. After a short while, phlegm and saliva will be vomited out, after which treatment should proceed according to the specific syndrome. If the jaw is locked, forcibly open it and administer the medicine for immediate effect.

The eyes are related to the Liver and Gallbladder, belonging to the Wind-Wood meridians, and are associated with Ministerial Fire. The Liver stores Blood; when Blood is insufficient, internal Wind and Fire arise, causing the eyeballs to move. The Classics state: "Curving and straightening, shaking and trembling, are manifestations of Wind." It is appropriate to use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) to nourish the Blood, adding Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) to clear the Liver. When Yin-Blood is internally abundant, deficient Wind will naturally subside.
Regarding Mu Zha (Eyelid Twitching): This indicates Wind in the Liver. When Wind enters the eyes, it feels as if blown by wind from above, below, left, and right—neither light nor heavy, yet unbearable—causing continuous eyelid twitching. There are four variations of this condition: continuous twitching of both eyes, or redness, or frequent wiping of eyebrows. This is Wind-Heat in the Gallbladder Meridian, likely developing into Gancun (Liver Malnutrition Syndrome). Use Siwei Feier Wan (Four-Ingredient Child-Nourishing Pills) plus Longdancao (Gentian Root) for recovery. For night blindness accompanied by eyelid twitching, consume Zhu Gan Yin (Boiled Liver Drink) combined with Siwei Feier Wan, resulting in restored vision and cessation of twitching. For fever, convulsions, and eyelid twitching, this belongs to Wind-Heat in the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. First treat with Chaihu Qinggan San (Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Powder), combined with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to tonify the Kidney for cure. For eyelid twitching or convulsions caused by fright, first use Jiawei Xiaochaihu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction), adding Wuyi (Melia Toosendan Fruit) and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) to clear Liver Heat, combined with Liuwei Dihuang Wan to nourish the Kidney and generate Liver Yin for recovery.
Siwei Feier Wan (Four-Ingredient Child-Nourishing Pills) treats vomiting and anorexia, abdominal distension leading to malnutrition syndrome, persistent diarrhea, food stagnation spleen malnutrition, corneal opacity in eyes, mouth and tongue sores, gingival rot, fever and emaciation, body-wide sores, cloudy white urine, abdominal distension with visible veins, and all types of malnutrition syndromes.
Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, stir-fried) Wuyi (Melia Toosendan Fruit) Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, stir-fried) (equal parts)
Grind into fine powder, form pills using water paste, sized like tung tree seeds. Take 10-20 pills per dose, swallowed with plain boiling water on an empty stomach.
Chaihu Qinggan Yin (Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Decoction) treats Wind-Heat and anger affecting the Liver, Gallbladder, and Sanjiao, alternating chills and fever, recurrent fever, hair sores/toxins, etc.
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root, 1.5 qian) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) Renshen (Ginseng Root) Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) (each 1 qian) Zhiren (Gardeniae Semen, stir-fried, 1 qian) Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit) Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 0.5 qian) Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (0.8 qian)
Cut into pieces. Add two zhong of water, decoct until eight-tenths remain. Strain and take hot.
