脉象大体上浮而滑的，容易治疗。脉象微细而涩的，难以治疗。
哮吼是以声音命名的病证，喉咙中发出像水鸡（青蛙）叫声的就是这种病。其病因主要在于痰饮，适宜采用吐法治疗。也有因体质虚弱而不能使用吐法的。治疗时，有的用紫金丹来引导排出痰涎，用小胃丹攻逐痰浊而痊愈；有的用六味地黄丸、补中益气汤，逐渐进服而痊愈。必须根据患者虚实情况进行辨证治疗。

各种疾病原本都有药方，唯独担心哮喘最难对付。麻黄、桑白皮、杏仁寻找苏子，白果、款冬花更是良药。甘草、黄芩同半夏一起，用水煮沸百次，不需要加姜。病患遇到这个仙方药，服用后才知道是定喘汤。
有一种论述：人平素就有喘急的病，遇到寒热变化无常时发作，发作时哮吼不停，夜间不能入睡的，用此方：
苏沈九宝汤

以上药物切碎，用生姜三片，乌梅一个，水一碗，煎至八分满，饭后服用，立即见效且停止服药。只要谨慎避免劳累，戒除浓味食物，节制欲望，白天常服用顺气化痰丸，夜间睡觉时服用抑火润下丸。如果要除根，必须配制六味地黄丸，加入黄柏、知母、人参、紫菀、五味子、百合各二两，浮小麦粉、熟蜜四两，制成糊丸。每次服用一百丸，空腹，用柿饼汤送下，吃完药后把柿饼也吃掉。
二母丸治疗哮喘。

以上研成细末，将乌梅肉蒸熟捣烂制成丸药，如梧桐子大小。每次服用三十丸，临睡前或饭后，连皮生姜汤送下。

小蓟草一把，用精猪肉四两，加水同煮至熟。吃肉并喝汤，立刻痊愈。这种草三月生长，七八月有四棱，茎叶尖，梢头有花籽。
一种论述：凡是遇到天气将要下雨时，就发作哮喘，甚至坐卧不安，饮食不进。这是因为肺窍中积存有冷痰，趁着天阴寒气从背部和鼻子进入体内，导致肺胀产生声音。这种病有的痛苦终身，也有母子相传的。每次发作时就服用此方，不过七八次，感觉痰液腥臭，吐出白色痰液，就是断绝病根了。用此方：
紫金丹

以上捏制成丸，如绿豆大小。刚觉得要发作时，用冷茶送下七丸，严重的九丸，以不喘为痊愈。如果再次发作，不要增加丸数，务必谨慎。小儿服用一到二丸。
导痰小胃丹（方剂见痰气篇）治疗哮吼多年不愈的，宜长期服用，以断根。

以上先用“人言”与白矾放在一起，在石器内用火煅烧至红，取出退火，呈黄色为度。切不可接触铁器。然后与半夏、南星、白附子的药末混合，用生姜汁煮面糊制成丸药，如黍米大小，朱砂为衣。每次服用七丸，小儿三丸，井水化开送下。忌食热物。

一种治疗平素患有哮吼病，发作时喘急，痰涎上壅，不时发作的人，令其谨慎劳役，戒除浓味食物，节制欲望。早晨服用六味地黄丸，加入黄柏、知母、人参、紫菀、五味子、百合各二两，浮小麦粉、熟蜜四两，打糊制成丸药。每次服用一百丸，空腹，用柿饼汤送下，吃完药后把柿饼也吃掉。夜间睡觉时服用后方（指前文提到的其他方剂或特指某方，此处语境似指配合上方或其他调理方），各服一料即可痊愈。

有一人自幼患哮吼病，每逢受寒就发作，发作时上气喘急，咳嗽，痰涎上壅，年久不愈，已成顽固性疾病，百药无效。我配制了这个方剂，一料药全部治愈。

The pulse is generally floating and slippery, indicating a condition that is easy to treat. The pulse is faint and choppy, indicating a difficult-to-treat condition.
Xiao Hou (Wheezing and Stridor) is named after its sound; the condition where the throat makes a sound like a water chicken (frog) is this disease. It primarily concerns phlegm (Tan). The vomiting method (Tu Fa) is suitable for treatment. However, there are cases of deficiency where vomiting cannot be used. Treatment involves using Zijin Dan (Purple Gold Pill) to guide out phlegm, or Xiaowei Dan (Minor Stomach Pill) to purge phlegm, resulting in cure. In other cases, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) and Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) are gradually administered until recovery. Treatment must be based on assessing the patient's excess or deficiency patterns.
Qianjin Dingchuan Tang (Thousand-Gold Asthma-Calming Decoction) treats Xiao Hou with miraculous effect.

Various diseases originally have their prescriptions, but one worries most that asthma is the hardest to manage. Mahuang, Sangbaipi, Xingren seek Suzi; Baiguo and Kuandonghua are even better medicines. Gancao, Huangqin together with Banxia, decocted in water boiled a hundred times without needing ginger. When patients encounter this immortal prescription, they will know it is Dingchuan Tang only after taking it.

Crush the herbs. Use three slices of fresh ginger, one dark plum (Wumei), one bowl of water. Decoct until eight-tenths remains. Take after meals. It is effective immediately and stop taking it thereafter. Only be cautious about laborious work. Avoid rich flavors. Regulate desires. During the day, regularly take Shunqi Huatan Wan (Regulate Qi and Resolve Phlegm Pill). At bedtime, take Yihuo Runxia Wan (Suppress Fire and Moisten Descend Pill). To eradicate the root, compound Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) adding Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Ziwan (Asteris Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), each 2 liang. Fuxiaomai Fen (Triticum Aestivum Flour), Shumi (Refined Honey) 4 liang. Make into pills with paste. Take 100 pills per dose, empty stomach, send down with Persimmon Cake Decoction. Eat the cake along with the medicine.
Ermu Wan (Two-Mother Pill) treats Asthma.
Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, skin and hair removed, 2 liang) Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, heart removed, 2 liang) Baiyaojian (Fermented Medicinal Brick, 1 liang)
Grind into fine powder. Steam Wumei meat until cooked, mash into a paste to form pills, size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, before sleeping or after meals. Send down with Ginger Skin Decoction.
One discussion: Panting and Xiao Hou, upper asthmatic breathing unceasing. Perhaps salt or water has irritated the lung orifices, commonly called "Panting Disease." Use this secret recipe:
Xiaoji Cao (Little Thistle Herb) one handful. Use 4 liang of lean pork. Cook together in water until done. Eat the meat and drink the broth; it cures immediately. This herb grows in March, has four edges in July-August, sharp stems and leaves, and flowers/seeds at the tips.
One discussion: Whenever weather seems about to rain, asthma attacks occur, so severe that sitting or lying down is impossible, and food intake ceases. This is because cold phlegm accumulates in the lung orifices. Taking advantage of cloudy sky and cold qi entering from the back and nose, the lungs swell and produce sound. This illness causes suffering lifelong for some, and is transmitted between mother and child for others. Take this formula whenever it attacks. Knead into pills, size of mung beans. As soon as an attack is felt, send down with cold tea: 7 pills for mild cases, 9 for severe cases. Stop when wheezing ceases. If it recurs, do not increase the number of pills. Be cautious. Children take 1-2 pills.
Daotan Xiaowei Dan (Guide Phlegm Minor Stomach Pill) (Formula see Phlegm-Qi section) treats Xiao Hou that has persisted for years. Suitable for long-term administration to eradicate the root.

First, place Ren Yan and Bai Fan together in a stone vessel. Fire until red, remove from fire. Yellow color indicates completion. Strictly avoid iron vessels. Then mix with powders of Banxia, Nanxing, and Baifuzi. Cook with ginger juice and wheat flour paste to form pills, size of millet seeds. Coat with Cinnabar. Take 7 pills per dose, 3 for children. Dissolve in well water and take. Avoid hot foods.

One treatment for those who habitually suffer from Xiao Hou, attacking with urgent panting, phlegm-saliva obstructing upwards, recurring frequently. Advise caution regarding labor, avoid rich flavors, regulate desires. Morning: take Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) added with Huangbai, Zhimu, Renshen, Ziwan, Wuwei, Baihe, each 2 liang. Fuxiaomai Fen, Shumi 4 liang. Make into pills with paste. Take 100 pills per dose, empty stomach, with Persimmon Cake Decoction. Eat the cake. Night: take the subsequent formula. One course of each leads to cure.
Qianjin Dinghou Wan (Thousand-Gold Roar-Calming Pill)

Grind into fine powder. Mix with Bamboo Sap (Zhuli) and Ginger Juice to form pills, size of bullet. Take one pill per dose, before bed. Hold in mouth to dissolve slowly. Or make pills size of millet seeds, send down with ginger decoction. One person suffered from Xiao Hou for over ten years. Grind into fine powder. Refine honey to form pills, size of Sophora seeds. Take 3 qian per dose, empty stomach. Send down with light ginger decoction.
