The symptoms of Manpi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind) include: a red face, sweating on the forehead, a short tongue, a drooping head, eyes closed and difficult to open, shaking the head and sticking out the tongue during sleep, frequent vomiting of foul-smelling substances, locked jaw with teeth grinding, and slight twitching of the hands and feet that cannot be controlled. The body may be cold, or warm while the four limbs are cold. The pulse is deep and faint. This indicates extreme excess of Yin Qi (Vital Energy associated with Yin) and extreme deficiency of Stomach Qi (Stomach Vital Energy). Only one or two out of ten cases can be saved. This condition usually arises after Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsion Wind), where vomiting and diarrhea damage the Spleen. The disease has progressed to an extreme stage, ultimately returning to deficiency, affecting only the Spleen; hence it is called Manpi Feng. At this stage, there is no "Wind" pathogen to dispel, and no "Convulsion" syndrome to treat; it is merely caused by the accumulation and stagnation of Saliva and Phlegm in the Spleen. What the world calls "difficult-to-treat Slow Convulsion Wind" refers to this Manpi Feng. It is suitable to take Jiawei Sijunzi Tang (Modified Four Gentlemen Decoction).
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (3 fen) Bai Fu Ling (Poria) (3 fen) Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (3 fen) Pao Gan Jiang (Prepared Dried Ginger) (4 fen) Bai Zhu (Fried Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (6 fen) Zhi Fu Zi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 fen) Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (1 fen) Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (4 fen)
Crush the above herbs, add three slices of fresh ginger and one jujube, decoct with water, and take orally.
Another discussion states that for critical and malignant conditions such as Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsion Wind) and Manpi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind), if the medicinal power fails to reach the affected area, observe the inner aspect of both legs and the depression in the center of the face. If the Taichong Pulse (Pulse at the Taichong acupoint) is palpable, moxa-ignite the Baihui acupoint (GV20) for three to five moxa cones (zhuang). The moxa cone should be the size of a wheat grain. After moxibustion, continue to regulate with formulas that awaken the Spleen.
Another discussion addresses pediatric Manpi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind) characterized by internal deficiency and coma/unresponsiveness. It is suitable to take Jiawei Da Xingpi San (Modified Great Spleen-Awakening Powder).
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, remove rhizome base and fry) Bai Fu Ling (Poria, remove skin) Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, processed) Quan Xie (Scorpio, remove toxicity and fry) Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, baked) Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma, baked) Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, fried) Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Shi Lian Rou (Nelumbinis Plumula, remove shell) Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen) Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus) Gan Cao (Licorice Root)
Another discussion addresses hoarseness and inability to speak after pediatric Jing Feng (Convulsion Wind), or inability to speak after various diseases. Take one Arisaema Rhizome (Tian Nan Xing), process it, remove the skin, and grind into powder. Take half a zi (approx. 0.1-0.2 g) per dose; for a five-year-old child, take half a qian (approx. 1.5-3 g). Mix with Pig Bile and administer before meals.
Another discussion presents a sacred medicine for treating Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsion Wind) and Manpi Feng (Slow Spleen Wind). One tablet possesses the merit of restoring life from death, taking effect almost instantly, thus named Huisheng Ding (Life-Restoring Tablet). This is truly a celestial prescription from the sea. It is also effective for Ji Jing Feng (Rapid Convulsion Wind).
Huisheng Ding (Life-Restoring Tablet)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 qian) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, remove rhizome base and oil, 1 liang) Bai Fu Ling (Poria, remove skin) Huai Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) (each 1 qian) Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (3 qian)
Dan Xing (Ardisia Seed / Processed Arisaema with Bile) (5 qian) Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum, roasted) (5 qian) Chen Sha (Cinnabar) (2 qian) Ru Xiang (Olibanum) (2.5 qian) Meng Shi (Calamine / Pyrite, roasted until golden) (3 qian) Niu Huang (Bovis Calculus) (1 qian) She Xiang (Moschus) (1 qian)
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix evenly, mold into tablet shapes, coat with Gold Foil, and dry in the shade. Take 3-5 fen per dose, dissolve in Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction) and swallow.
