Regarding stroke, there are always prodromal symptoms. Whenever a person feels numbness and insensitivity in the thumb and index finger, or weakness in the hands and feet, or twitching of muscles, a severe stroke (Zhong Feng) will inevitably occur within three years. The classics state: "Muscle twitching is called mild wind." Therefore, the thumb and index finger belong to the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian and the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian; wind pathogens often invade these meridians. Prevention should be undertaken. It is advisable to take Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) or Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) in the morning, and Zhuli Zhizhu Wan (Bamboo Juice and Immature Bitter Orange Pill) along with Soushen Fengqi Wan (Wind-Searching and Qi-Regulating Pill) in the evening. These two medicines should be taken alternately. Over time, various ailments can be eliminated, and how could stroke occur? Thus, the sages treat diseases before they arise, rather than treating them after they have manifested.
Regarding this regimen, it specializes in resolving phlegm and clearing fire, regulating qi and removing dampness, dispelling dizziness, treating numbness, digesting food and alcohol stagnation, opening depression and accumulation, nourishing qi and blood, and strengthening the spleen and stomach. It may be taken routinely.
Zhuli Zhizhu Wan (Bamboo Juice and Immature Bitter Orange Pill)
Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, remove rhizome base and soil, stir-fry) Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soak in rice wash water, stir-fry with salt water, each 2 liang) Muxiang (Vladimiriae Radix, 2 qian) Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, stir-fry with bran) Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, remove white pith) Baifuling (Poria, remove skin) Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soak in water decocted from Bai Fan, Gleditsiae Spina, and Sheng Jiang for one day, then boil until dry) Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, process as above) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fry with ginger juice) Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fry with wine) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, wash with wine) Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus, remove seeds) Baijiezi (Brassicae Semen Album, stir-fry) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fry with wine, each 1 liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Use Liuku Shenqu (Medicated Leaven, 6 liang), Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice, 1 zhan), and Zhu Li (Bamboo Juice, 1 wan). Boil into a paste to form pills, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 100 pills per dose, far after meals and before sleep, delivered with light ginger soup.
Regarding thirty-six types of wind pathogens and seventy-two kinds of qi disorders, manifesting as upper heat and lower cold, pain in waist and legs, weakness in four limbs, excessive sleepiness with poor appetite, gradual emaciation, incomplete complexion, malignant sores draining downwards, bitter taste with loss of flavor, aversion to cold with hair standing on end, chronic accumulations and masses, impotence in men, infertility in women, chronic cold malaria, vomiting and dysentery, intestinal heat causing hypochondriac fullness and oppression, dry constipation, red and scanty urination, intestinal wind and hemorrhoids/fistulas, stubborn numbness in limbs and joints, paralysis of hands and feet, difficulty walking, slurred speech. This applies to men, women, and children alike.
Soushen Fengqi Wan (Wind-Searching and Qi-Regulating Pill)
Jinwen Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, soaked in wine, steamed and sun-dried nine times until black, 5 liang as chief ingredient) Huomaren (Cannabis Fructus, lightly stir-fried and shelled, 2 liang) Yuliren (Prunus Semen, soaked and peeled, 2 liang) Zhiqiao (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, stir-fried with bran, 2 liang) Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus, steamed with wine and pitted, 2 liang) Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, stir-fried, 2.5 liang) Binglang (Arecae Semen, 2 liang) Gan Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, steamed with wine, 2 liang) Huai Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, remove rhizome base, wash with wine, 2 liang) Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen, washed clean, stewed in wine until soft, pounded into cakes, dried, 2 liang) Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 1 liang)
Grind the above into powder. Form pills with honey, sized like paulownia seeds. Take over 70 pills per dose, with tea or wine as desired, with no dietary restrictions. Take once in the morning and once in the evening. If one feels slight movement in the viscera, replenish with lamb lung and tripe soup. For chronic intestinal wind and hematochezia, it removes the root cause. For paralysis and slurred speech, it restores normalcy. Taking an additional dose after drinking eliminates hangovers. People past middle age who overconsume rich flavors, drink alcohol, and eat meat often accumulate phlegm-fire and fail to abstain from sexual activity, frequently leading to yin deficiency with hyperactive fire. When fire moves, it generates wind, which is described as "one water cannot overcome five fires." Therefore, this formula primarily disperses wind and descends fire. It treats both the elderly with weak constitutions and robust women. Pregnant women should not take it.
