My commentary: If the nursing mother suffers from worry injuring the Spleen, Blood deficiency with heat, poor appetite, fatigue, or Spleen failing to control blood leading to vomiting or diarrhea, forgetfulness, palpitations, insomnia, Heart-Spleen pain, spontaneous or night sweats, limb swelling/pain, irregular menstruation, afternoon fever, internal heat, or lip sores, causing the child to suffer, use this formula for both mother and child.
Bawei Dihuang Wan (Eight-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill): Is Qian Shi's Dihuang Wan plus Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi) and Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), one liang each.
My commentary: This formula treats congenital decline of Mingmen Fire failing to generate Earth, resulting in Spleen Earth coldness, poor appetite, indigestion, umbilical/abdominal pain, and frequent nocturia. It is especially suitable if caused by prolonged illness depleting Yuan Qi. If the nursing mother has declining Mingmen Fire and the infant drinks her milk causing these symptoms, the mother should take it.
