此即是养儿之法。

(Infant Lockjaw Syndrome)
The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) discusses that Ke Wu (Guest Intoxication), Zhong Ren (Striking Man), and Zhong Ma (Striking Horse) are essentially the same, and their treatment methods are largely identical, though there may be slight differences.
The *Ge Shi Zhou Hou Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Clutched at the Sleeve by Ge Hong) treats infants suffering from Zhong Ren with vomiting and diarrhea of yellow fluid, by boiling fourteen copper coins in one dou (approx. 10 liters) of water for bathing the infant.
Another method from Ge Shi: Mix water, flour, and cooked mugwort (Ai Ye, Artemisia argyi), each formed into pills the size of a chicken egg. Rub these on the five centers (palms and soles) of the infant for a long time until sweat appears through the hair; the illness will resolve.
The Xu Wang Shen Xiao Fang (Miraculously Effective Formula of Xu Wang) from the *Ge Shi Zhou Hou Fang* treats infants who vomit milk and have flaccid limbs, termed Zhong Ren Wu.
Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, Cinnamomi Cortex), 3 liang, boiled in 2 sheng (approx. 400 ml) of water to obtain 1.5 sheng, divided into three doses. Additionally, apply the thick residue to the five centers, keeping them warm. (The *Ying Ru Fang* (Infant and Child Prescriptions) for Zhong Ren Wu uses Gui Xin, 2 liang, boiled in 3 sheng of water to obtain 1.5 sheng.)
The *Qianjin Fang* formula for sudden Zhong Ren Wu.
Shear off a tuft of rotating hair from the shoulder blade of the foreleg of a donkey, about the size of a marble. Decoct it in cow's milk until the hair dissolves and the medicine is ready. Apply to the nipple for the infant to suckle; upon swallowing, the patient recovers immediately.
Another formula from the *Qianjin Fang*.
Burn three cun (approx. 10 cm) of the mother's sash, combine with hair, and administer with cow's milk.
Another formula from the *Qianjin Fang*.
Apply saliva from the mouth of a cow to the nipple for the infant to suckle.
Another formula from the *Qianjin Fang*.
Administer nasal mucus from a cow orally.
The *Qianjin Fang* formula for infants with chills and fever due to evil qi striking the person. One-Ingredient Pig Trotter Powder.
Burn the suspended hoof of the hind leg of a pig, grind into powder, and sieve. Administer a pinch with cow's milk; effect is immediate.
The *Qianjin Fang* formula for infants who suddenly feel unwell when seeing people, with sounds in the abdomen. Two-Ingredient Burned Hair Powder.
Take ten strands of hair from the anterior fontanelle of a previous person, cut a small piece of the infant's umbilical cord, burn them together to ash, make into fine powder, mix with milk, and feed to the infant; recovery follows.
The *Qianjin Fang* formula for infants with Zhong Ren Wu, characterized by trunk crying, cyanotic face, and abdominal rigidity. One-Ingredient Pig Feces Bath.
Two sheng (approx. 400 ml) of pig feces, irrigate with hot water, adjust to appropriate temperature, and bathe the infant.
The *Shi Yi Xin Jian* (New Mirror of Food Doctors): For infants with chills and fever due to evil qi striking the person, also use wet fermented soybeans (Shi Dou, Fermented Soybean) made into pills, following the method for treating Ke Wu.
The *Ying Ru Fang* formula for treating infants with Zhong Ren Wu.
Take fresh proventriculus (Zhen, Chicken Gizzard), wash with warm water, extract the juice, and bathe the infant; cure is immediate.
Another formula from the *Ying Ru*.
Ma Tong (Horse Dung).
Burn to ash above, boil in three sheng of wine, and bathe the infant.
The *Ying Ru Fang* treats infants born five or six days old who suddenly have traction of the mouth corners and cannot nurse, showing signs of Zhong Ren Wu. If the cry is absent, death ensues; this is untreatable. If detected late, death occurs; if detected early, the qi has not entered the zang-fu organs. If there is slight sucking reflex, this decoction should be used.
Gan Cao (Licorice Root, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (roasted), Long Gu (Fossilized Bone, Os Draconis), Fu Ling (Poria, Poria cocos), Mu Li (Oyster Shell, Concha Ostreae) (calcined red), Gan Di Huang (Rehmannia Root, Rehmanniae Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, Scutellariae Radix) (each 1 fen), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, Cinnamomi Cortex) (each 0.5 liang. The above are sliced).
Take one sheng of Dan Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap, Bambusae Succus), boil to obtain 0.5 sheng, strain to remove dregs, add 1 he of Bai Mi (White Honey, Mel), and administer. Adjust dosage as needed.
The *Ying Ru Fang* treats infants with sudden fright, crying, and apparent death, or where evil qi enters with outsiders, or where observers mention the disease name "Tao," and other physicians fail to treat. Qian Jin Tang Formula.
Shu Qi (Polygala Root, Polygalae Radix), Zuo Gu Mu Li (Left-Gazing Oyster Shell, Concha Ostreae) (calcined red, each 1 fen).
Boil in one sheng of Jiang Shui (Grain Water, Aqua Fermentatae Cerealis) to obtain 0.5 sheng. Warm and administer 1 he. If lockjaw prevents swallowing, hold in the mouth to allow gradual descent; cure follows.
Appendix: Mao Xiansheng Fang (Prescription of Master Mao): Infant born with Fan Ren Jin Syndrome (Stricken by Outsider Lockjaw). Face is cyanotic and black, umbilicus closed, vomiting and inability to take milk. This syndrome occurs because after birth, outsiders inevitably come to view the child. There may be axillary odor, or impure menstrual blood from women, or outsiders carrying evil spirits touching the newborn. Thus, nursing exposes the infant to異气 (heterogeneous qi). Since qi and blood are not yet established, wind evil strikes, causing this condition.
For treatment, first apply Zhu Sha Gao (Cinnabar Paste, see section on Fright Accumulation) to the nipple for sucking. Then administer Zhen Xin Wan (Heart-Calming Pill, see section on All Fright Syndromes); recovery follows.
If observed that milk is not taken, eyes stare fixedly, and abdomen is hard, this is a sign of death. Generally,
When a son is just born, if family members do not see him, do not immediately allow outsiders to enter the room to view him. Every household has its own deities. Also, fear that axillary odor or impure menstrual blood of women may touch the infant, fearing Ke Wu (Guest Intoxication). This is the method of raising children.
