The aforementioned Ochre (Dai Zhe Shi) and Red Halloysite (Chi Shi Zhi) are first pounded into a fine powder and sifted. Forty kernels of Croton Seed (Ba Dou), with hearts and skins removed, are roasted (both *Qianjin Yi Fang* and *Yuanhe Jiyong Jing* record using thirty kernels; additionally, *Jiyong Jing* records washing twenty kernels, processing them with sand skin, and ten are used raw). Fifty Almond Kernels (Xing Ren), with skins removed, are crushed and ground until they resemble fat (*Yuanhe Jiyong Jing* uses forty-seven kernels). The three substances are combined and pounded for three thousand strokes. Observe the consistency yourself; if it is too hard, add a small amount of honey and continue pounding. Store in a sealed container. For a thirty-day-old infant, administer one pill the size of a hemp seed, followed by a small amount of breast milk to help it go down. After some time, give a little more milk, but do not overfeed. It is expected that there will be mild diarrhea by midday. If the fever does not subside, administer another pill the next morning. For a hundred-day-old infant, adjust the dosage to the size of a small bean, modifying accordingly. If infants often fall ill with heat in summer, this pill can treat almost any condition; administering it once every thirty or twenty days is particularly beneficial. If genuine Ochre cannot be found, Left-Facing Oyster Shell (Zuo Gu Mu Li) can be used as a substitute. The Purple Pill (Zi Wan) from *Qianjin Yao Fang* and *Qianjin Yi Fang* treats pediatric Bian Zheng (periodic growth fever) where fever persists, accompanied by Shang Han (cold damage), Wen Zhuang (warmth and high fever), persistent fever after sweating, phlegm accumulation in the abdomen, refusal to nurse, vomiting upon nursing, food epilepsy, alternating chills and fever. This is also one of the Seven Treasures for Infant Care in *Yuanhe Jiyong Jing*, and the Seven Sages Formula for Protecting Children by the Purple Yang Daoist. Furthermore, *Qianjin Yi Fang* states that if an infant has excess Qi and illness, purging will cause no harm; if purging is delayed, the illness will become difficult to treat. *Taiping Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric Bian Zheng that persists for a long time, accompanied by internal heat, irritability, ceaseless crying, bone heat, and yellow complexion. Chai Hu San Formula: Bupleurum Root (Chai Hu, remove sprouts), Licorice Root (Gan Cao, roast until slightly red and cut), Ginseng Root (Ren Shen, remove rhizome), Scrophularia Root (Xuan Shen) (each 1 liang), Gentian Root (Long Dan, 0.5 liang, remove rhizome), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Men Dong, 1.5 liang, remove heart and roast). Pound the above herbs, sieve into a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct in one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup, strain, and take warm at any time, adjusting the dose according to the infant's age. *Ying Ru Fang* treats pediatric Bian Zheng with persistent high fever. Ochre (Dai Zhe, 1.5 liang), Almond Kernels (Xing Ren, 30 pieces, separately ground). Grind the above into powder, mix evenly, and form pills with beeswax. For a twenty-day-old infant, administer Black Powder (Hei San); after sweating occurs, administer the Purple Pill (Zi Wan), one pill the size of a millet seed, followed by a little breast milk to facilitate drug absorption. Between feedings, nurse again, avoiding overfeeding. Administer once at dawn; when the drug's effect wears off by noon, add another pill in the late afternoon. If not recovered by cockcrow, administer another pill; stop if recovered. For a thirty-day-old infant, use a pill the size of a broad bean. If constipation persists with high fever, add half a pill, stopping when bowel movement occurs. Another prescription states: after taking the Purple Pill, there should be purging and complete expulsion; if not expelled or incomplete, the disease pathogen remains, and further administration is required. For heat conditions, take the Purple Pill; for cold conditions without heat, diligently take Dang Gui San or Huang Qin San. For slight fever after Bian Zheng, administer Chu Re Huang Qin Tang. Mr. Wang Handong of Handong takes Black Powder (Hei San); wait for slight sweating and slight cooling of the body, then apply Fragrant Powder San Formula: Concha Tridacnae (Bang Fen, grind extremely fine, wash with water), Musk (She Xiang, a small amount, grind fine). Grind the above into powder, wrap in cotton, and sprinkle on the body. Zhang Huan treats infants within their first year who occasionally have body heat, restless sleep, irregular nursing, unclear vision, intermittent symptoms, changing every thirty-two days and again at sixty-four days; severe cases show slight fright. This is the growth of blood and Qi, named Bian Zheng Hou. After the first year, it gradually subsides; do not indiscriminately administer herbal decoctions. Use Qing Xin Tang Formula: Ginseng Root (Ren Shen, 0.5 liang, remove rhizome), Ephedra Stem (Ma Huang, remove joints), Rhubarb (Da Huang), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Men Dong, remove heart), Licorice Root (Gan Cao, roast), Rhinoceros Horn (Xi Jiao, each 1 fen). Pound the above herbs, sieve into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, with 0.8 cups of water, add one Almond Kernel (remove tip and crush), decoct together until reduced to 0.4 cups, strain, cool to warm temperature, and administer frequently. Zhang Huan's Zi Sha Dan Formula treats persistent body heat during Bian Zheng. Ochre (Dai Zhe, finely ground, soaked in water overnight, clarified, dried), Angelica Root (Dang Gui, washed and dried, each 0.5 liang), Cinnabar (Zhu Sha, finely ground, water-washed), Aucklandia Root (Mu Xiang), Ginseng Root (Ren Shen, remove rhizome, each 1 fen). Grind the above into fine powder, mix evenly with Ochre. Add ten Almond Kernels (remove skin and tips), five Croton Seeds (Ba Dou, remove heart and membrane, express oil), grind evenly. Add half a qian of Musk (She Xiang), mix well, add drops of water to form pills the size of needle heads. Take 3 to 5 pills per dose, taken with Schizonepeta Decoction (Jing Jie Tang) after nursing. *Ji Shi Jia Chuan* treats Shang Han Bian Zheng Hou Formula: Angelica Root (Dang Gui, 1 qian), Rhubarb (Da Huang, stir-fried), Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin), Aconite Root (Wu Tou, boiled, each 1 fen), Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng, 0.5 liang). Grind the above into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, with half a cup of water, add Schizonepeta (Jing Jie), decoct until reduced to 0.4 cups, take warm. Ding Shifa, a physician from Changsha, transmits a formula for treating Bian Zheng Hou: The days of Bian Zheng are very clear; sometimes purging with Sophora Flower (Huai Hua) and addressing fright. Fever with crying and refusal to nurse requires urgent regulation of Qi for peace. Yun Qi San: Cyperus Rhizome (Xiang Fu), Licorice Root (Gan Cao, roast, each 1 fen), Aristolochia Vine (Tian Xian Teng), Ginseng Root (Ren Shen), Tangerine Peel (Ju Pi), Patchouli Leaf (Huo Xiang, each 1 qian). Grind the above into powder. Take half a qian per dose, mixed with rice water.
