According to *Chao Shi Bing Yuan* (Source of Diseases by Chao Yuanfang) regarding various sores on the head, face, and body of infants: When internal heat from the Zang-Fu organs is excessive, hot qi rushes and diffuses into the skin. If externally attacked by wind-heat, it contends with blood and qi, resulting in sores. The condition initially presents as red swelling, followed by pus formation. It heals and recurs repeatedly. Sores may appear on the body, or solely on the head and face, or simultaneously on both.
*Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) formula for treating hundred-day-old infants with sores on the head and face accompanied by high fever throughout the body.
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) [each 6 zhu; *Qian Jin Yi Fang* uses 1 liang each], Zhigancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [each 12 zhu], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [18 zhu; *Qian Jin Yi Fang* uses 3 liang], Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [18 zhu].
Crush the above seven ingredients. Decoct in 4 sheng of water until 2 sheng remains. Divide into doses, administering three times daily and once at night. Adjust dosage according to the child's age. *Qian Jin Yi Fang* notes that besides internal administration, boiling more of this decoction to wash the sores is beneficial.
*Qian Jin Fang* formula for treating infants with sores all over the head, face, and body.
Take Yubai pi (Ulmus Thunbergii Cortex) in appropriate amounts, dry it in the sun, sieve it into fine powder, mix with vinegar, apply to cotton, and dress the sores. Parasites will emerge naturally. Alternatively, mix with pig fat (Su Zhi) for application.
*Qian Jin Yi Fang* Kushen Tang (Sophorae Root Decoction), main formula for treating infantile heat-sores on the head and face.
Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) [8 liang], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) [each 3 liang], Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus) [1 sheng], Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) [2 liang], Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) [5 liang], Baxie (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma) [1 jin].
Cut the above eight ingredients. Decoct in 3 dou of water until 1.5 dou remains. Wash the affected area three times daily; this is highly effective. *Qian Jin Fang* states: Treats sores all over the upper and lower body.
*Qian Jin Yi Fang*, another formula.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Zelan (Lycopus Lucidus Herba), Fanshi (Alumen), Shinan (Rhododendri Mollis Folium) [each 1 liang], Rongyan (Natrii Chloridum), Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus) [3 he].
Cut the above eight ingredients. Decoct in 7 sheng of water until 3 sheng remains. Immerse cotton wadding in the decoction and wipe the affected area three times daily.
*Qian Jin Yi Fang*, another formula.
Stir-fry Douchi (Fermented Soybean) until yellow, grind into powder, and apply to the sores. Healing occurs within no more than three applications.
*Tai Ping Sheng Hui Fang* uses this formula to treat infants with malignant qi on the head, face, and body, causing frequent sores. Prior to application, boil Tao Ye (Pruni Persicae Folium) decoction, wash the area clean, dry it, and then apply the medicine.
*Wai Tai Mi Yao* (Important Prescriptions from the Imperial Library) citing *Gu Jin Lu Yan* (Recorded Experiences Through Generations) for treating burns-like sores on the infant's face and body.
Take 1 dou of Huangmi (Panicum Militare), grind into powder, mix with honey water, and apply until healed.
*Wai Tai Mi Yao* citing *Gu Jin Lu Yan*, another formula.
Grind Chidelü (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis) into powder and dust the sores. *Sheng Hui Fang* suggests soaking Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) in water, mixing with pus, and applying Chidelü to the sores.
*Wai Tai Mi Yao* citing *Guang Ji* for treating heat-sores on the infant's head and face.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) [8 fen; *Sheng Hui Fang* uses 4 fen], Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) [each 8 fen], Hufen (Cerussa) [4 he; *Sheng Hui Fang* uses 0.5 liang, stir-fried until yellow].
Grind the above four ingredients into powder, mix with Sesame Oil (Mazhi), and apply to the sores. Covering the entire area is better. *Sheng Hui Fang*'s Huanglian San (Coptidis Powder) is identical and also treats heat-sores on the body; for facial sores, mix with pig fat (Su Zhi).
*Zimu Milu* for treating sudden onset of sores on the infant's face with yellow fluid discharge.
Burn Jiyu tou (Cyprinus Carpio Caput) into powder, mix with Jiangqing (Sauce Juice), and apply. Change daily.
