The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: For newborn infants within the first month of life, frequently drinking pig milk is highly beneficial.
The method from the *Taiping Shenghui Fang* (Holy Benefit Formulas of the Taiping Era): To obtain pig milk, one must first allow the piglets to suckle from the sow, then immediately lift the piglet by its hind legs away from the udder and squeeze quickly to extract the milk; squeezing without prior suckling yields no milk.
Zhang Huan stated: For infants within the first month after birth, frequently taking fresh pig milk and dripping it into the mouth is most appropriate.
The *Waitai Miyao* (Secret Essentials of the Outer Cabinet) records: Cui Shi's method for preserving the placenta (fetal membrane/umbilical cord remnant): First wash the placenta with clear water, ensuring it is not contaminated by sand, soil, or grass. Then wash it with clear wine, and place a copper coin inside the placenta. Put it in a new bottle, wrap the bottle mouth with green cotton, cover it tightly, and temporarily store it in a convenient place. After three days have passed, based on the auspicious day of the current month, choose an area that is sunny, elevated, and dry. Bury it three chi deep, with a layer of soil one chi seven cun thick above the bottle. The soil must be tamped firmly to ensure the child lives long and possesses wisdom. If the placenta is not stored carefully and is eaten by pigs or dogs, the child may suffer from epilepsy or madness. If eaten by insects or ants, the child may develop malignant sores. If eaten by dogs or birds, the child may die in battle. If buried near a shrine or temple, the child may see ghosts. If buried near deep water pools, the child may drown. If buried near old stove sites, the child may become easily startled and vigilant. If buried near wells, the child may suffer from deafness and blindness. If discarded in roads or alleys, the child may be childless. If placed at the door, the child may lose their voice and go deaf. If allowed to float down a stream, the child may suffer from blue cataracts (polaris blindness). If thrown into fire, the child may develop rotting sores. If hung on trees, the child may commit suicide by hanging. All such taboos must be observed with utmost caution.
The *Waitai Miyao* records: Cui Shi's method for comforting the postpartum woman and determining dates for burying the placenta based on "Tiande" (Heavenly Virtue) and "Yuekong" (Monthly Void) positions:
In the first month, Tiande is in Ding, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the second month, Tiande is in Kun, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng. In the third month, Tiande is in Ren, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the fourth month, Tiande is in Xin, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng. In the fifth month, Tiande is in Qian, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the sixth month, Tiande is in Jia, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng. In the seventh month, Tiande is in Gui, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the eighth month, Tiande is in Gen, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng. In the ninth month, Tiande is in Bing, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the tenth month, Tiande is in Yi, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng. In the eleventh month, Tiande is in Xun, Yuekong is in Bing and Ren. In the twelfth month, Tiande is in Geng, Yuekong is in Jia and Geng.
Whenever preserving the infant's placenta, follow this method and bury it in the direction of Tiande or Yuekong. If encountering a "Fan Zhi" (Reverse Branch) day, place the placenta in a new bottle, seal the mouth tightly, and hang it outside the house at the Fude (Fortune and Virtue) position, facing a sunny, elevated, and dry area. Wait until the month has passed, then bury it according to the regulations for great auspiciousness.
The *Waitai Miyao* records: Another method by Cui Shi: During the ten days of the Jia-Yin cycle, do not bury the infant's placenta. Place it in a sealed bottle in an open area, and bury it only after these ten days have passed.
The *Waitai Miyao* records: Another method by Cui Shi: On the days of Jia-Chen, Yi-Si, Bing-Wu, Ding-Wei, and Wu-Shen, do not bury the infant's placenta. Keep it in a bottle, tightly sealed to prevent air exchange, and hang it in the room where the child was born. Bury it after these five days have passed, but do not delay beyond this period.
The *Waitai Miyao* records: Another method by Cui Shi: For children born on Jia or Yi days, it is auspicious to preserve the placenta on Bing or Ding days. For children born on Bing or Ding days, it is auspicious to preserve the placenta on Wu or Ji days. For children born on Wu or Ji days, it is auspicious to preserve the placenta on Geng or Xin days. For children born on Geng or Xin days, it is auspicious to preserve the placenta on Ren or Gui days.
The *Zimu Milu* (Secret Records of Mother and Child) method for preserving the placenta: First, place the infant's placenta in a jar. Wash it with clear water, then with clear wine. Add one he of soybeans, then one he of adzuki beans. Then add one he each of soil from city gates, market gates, prison gates, scallion gardens, and leek gardens, layering them repeatedly. Cover the top with layers of five-colored silk, each piece one chi five cun long, tying them securely around the jar mouth. Write the following incantation in vermilion ink on an iron tablet: "Soybean [Name] removes innocent disasters; Adzuki bean Li-Li removes abdominal masses; City gate soil allows meeting nobles; Market gate soil ensures prosperity in travel; Prison gate soil wards off thieves and war; Scallion and leek garden soil cuts off recurrence of illness. Giving the child Green grants long life. Giving the child Red grants bodily purity and auspiciousness. Giving the child White grants longevity and wealth in thousands. Giving the child Black grants longevity without aging. Giving the child Yellow grants purity and removal of all misfortunes. Hurry as if by imperial decree." Attach this talisman to an iron plate one chi two cun long, first coating it thoroughly with clean ink, then writing the text in vermilion cinnabar, placing it face up on the jar mouth. Store it in a convenient place for three days. Then, on an auspicious day of the month, in a sunny, elevated, and dry location, dig a pit three chi deep and bury the jar. Pile soil one chi seven cun high above the jar, tamping it firmly, to ensure the child lives long and possesses intelligence.
