According to the *Shenghui Fang*: In the midsummer months, infants' skin and pores (cutaneous texture and sweat apertures) are open, making them susceptible to invasion by wind-heat pathogens. When wind-heat toxic qi interacts with the skin, heat rash (feizi) develops. The condition resembles scalding water; in mild cases, it appears densely like millet grains, while in severe cases, heat maceration leads to ulceration, hence the name, commonly known as heat rash.
Tao Hongjing's prescription for treating infantile heat rash.
Take the juice from the stems of *Cuscutae Semen* (Dodder Seed), and use it to bathe the infant.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats infantile heat rash that has been abraded into ulcers causing pain. It is suitable to use the Chishizhi San (Red Halloysite Powder) for Pain Relief and Tissue Regeneration:
Chishizhi (Red Halloysite), Huangbai (*Phellodendri Cortex*, powdered), Lamiante Cha (Wax-faced Tea, powdered, each 0.5 liang), Baifan (White Flour, 2 liang), Longnao (Borneol, 1 fen).
Grind all ingredients uniformly. For each application, dip cotton wool in the powder and dust it onto the ulcer until healed.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats summer heat rash and heat sores in infants using the Gefen San (Kudzu Root Powder):
Gefen (Puerariae Radix, 3 liang), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*, freshly sliced), Duanshi (Calcined Alum Stone, fried, each 1 liang).
Pound the ingredients and sieve them into powder. Dust the powder onto the lesions with cotton wool until healed.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats infantile body heat-induced heat rash using the Huashi San (Talcum Powder):
Huashi (Talcum, powdered, 3 liang), Baijian (Alumen, calcined to ash, 1 liang), Zhaoye (Ziziphus Jujuba Leaf, 4 liang).
Pound the ingredients and sieve them into powder. First wash the lesion with warm fermented rice water, then apply the powder, which will lead to healing.
Another prescription from the *Shenghui Fang*:
Yingfen (Kaolin/China Clay, 5 liang), Bailongnao (White Borneol, 1 qian).
Finely grind the ingredients. First wash the lesion with a decoction of Ziziphus Jujuba leaves, then dust the powder.
The *Shenghui Fang* treats infantile heat rash that has broken due to heat, with unceasing pain:
Gan Ouji (Dried Lotus Rhizome Node, powdered, 2 liang), Sheng Youma (Raw Sesame Seeds, 2 he).
First pound the sesame seeds into a paste, then mix in the lotus node powder. Add raw honey and adjust to an appropriate consistency. Apply to the lesion; healing occurs within three to five applications.
Zhang Huan treats infantile heat rash occurring in midsummer when sweating causes the pores to become loose and sparse, allowing wind-heat toxic qi to lodge therein. The symptoms resemble scalding or scattered millet grains, commonly called heat rash, and severe cases may be abraded. It is suitable to use the Longnao San (Borneol Powder):
Longnao (Borneol, separately ground), Huangbai (*Phellodendri Cortex*, powdered, each 0.5 liang), Baifan (White Flour), Lamiante Cha (Wax-faced Tea, powdered, each 2 liang).
Grind all ingredients finely and uniformly. For each application, dip new cotton wool in the powder and dust it onto the lesion, applying specifically to broken areas, until healed.
