Shu Biao Fa (Method of Dispersing the Exterior) For pediatric fever, regardless of whether caused by wind-cold, food stagnation, or epidemic pox/rash, this method is suitable. Take a handful of Cong Bai (Scallion Stem), pound into a paste to extract juice, add a little Ma You (Sesame Oil), and mix well. Dip fingers in the scallion oil and massage the child's five centers (palms, soles, and chest), head, face, neck, and back. Rub each area more than ten times. After completion, wrap the child in thick clothing, cover the head, and induce slight sweating, but avoid profuse sweating. This method best opens the Cou Li (skin texture and pores), unblocks meridians, expels pathogenic factors outward, prevents them from lingering in Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive levels), and does not damage healthy qi; it is indeed an excellent method.
Qing Li Fa (Method of Clearing the Interior) When pediatric fever persists for two to three days, pathogens have entered the interior, or milk/food stagnation has formed internal stagnant heat. Signs include heat in the five centers, restlessness during sleep, thirst with frequent crying, chest fullness with rapid breathing, red face with cracked lips, and constipation/difficulty in urination. This indicates internal heat. Take one egg, separate the white from the yolk, place the white in a bowl, add Ma You (Sesame Oil) equal in volume to the egg white, plus 1 qian of fine Xiong Huang (Realgar powder), and stir thoroughly. Take a clump of women's loose hair, dip it in the egg white mixture, and pat it on the child's stomach opening (epigastrium). In cold weather, warm it over fire; do not use cold. Pat from the chest down to the umbilicus for half an hour. Leave the hair-covered egg white on the chest and bind with cloth. Remove after the time equivalent to one incense stick. It can clear all types of heat. Egg white nourishes yin and clears heat; Ma You (Sesame Oil) and Xiong Huang (Realgar) draw out toxins and cool the skin. Use this for those with body heat. If there is no body heat, only crying, irritability, and restless spirit, omit the egg white; use only Ma You (Sesame Oil), Xiong Huang (Realgar), and loose hair for patting, still applied to the chest, leading to immediate calm sleep. This method often saves critical conditions; its merits are too numerous to recount.
Jie Fan Fa (Method of Resolving Restlessness) For pediatric excess heat syndromes, or severe heat from measles toxin, presenting with red face, thirst, heat in the five centers, irritable crying, body heat like fire, rapid upper jiao breathing, and flailing limbs. If medicine cannot be administered immediately, take 1 liang of Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, water-ground), mix with egg white to a slightly thin consistency, apply to the child's epigastrium and both palms. Grind ten or more pieces of Jiu Qu (Fermented Rice Grain), mix with hot wine to form two cakes, and apply to both sole centers (Yongquan points). Bind with cloth. Soon, heat disperses to the four limbs, the heart feels cool, and crying/restlessness ceases.
Kai Bi Fa (Method of Opening Obstruction) For pediatric wind-phlegm obstruction causing coma and unconsciousness where medicine cannot enter, or even moxibustion causes no pain sensation. This is due to phlegm blocking the large collaterals of the Spleen, cutting off the pathways of Yin-Yang ascent and descent. It is not necessarily a fatal condition. Take raw Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome), raw Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf), raw Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), and raw Cong Bai (Scallion Stem), one handful each. Pound together in a stone mortar until pasty. Stir-fry these four ingredients with Ma You (Sesame Oil) and good vinegar until hot. Wrap in cloth and iron/moxa-warm from head, neck, back, chest, and limbs downwards while hot. Once phlegm is resolved, the child wakes suddenly. This formula is effective not only for children but for all obstruction syndromes.
Yin Tan Fa (Method of Guiding Phlegm Downward) For pediatric phlegm cough with rapid upper jiao breathing, ascending without descending, and sawing sounds in the throat. The phlegm must be guided downward. Grind 1 liang of Sheng Bai Fan (Raw Alum) into powder, add a small amount of flour (rice flour is also acceptable, as alum turns to liquid upon contact with vinegar; flour provides viscosity). Mix with good vinegar to form two small cakes, apply to both sole centers, and bind with cloth. After one night, the phlegm naturally descends.
Nuan Tan Fa (Method of Warming Phlegm) For pediatric cold-phlegm in the chest causing intermittent syncope, where upon waking, the child vomits substance resembling mung bean powder, thick and greenish. This is extreme cold phlegm. Previous methods cannot resolve it. Use one piece of Sheng Fu Zi (Raw Aconite Lateral Root) and 1 liang of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger). Pound together, stir-fry until hot, wrap in cloth, and iron/warm the back and anterior chest. After ironing, roll the ginger and aconite into a cake and apply to the epigastrium. After a long while, the phlegm naturally dissipates.
Na Qi Fa (Method of Gathering Qi) For pediatric collapse syndromes with rapid upper jiao breathing, floating and scattering of true qi that fails to return to its root, where various medicines fail. Grind Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit, 5 fen), Hu Jiao (Black Pepper, 7 grains), and Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis, 1 qian) into extremely fine powder. Mix with wine to form a cake, seal onto the navel, and bind with a belt. The qi will naturally smooth out.
Tong Mai Fa (Method of Unblocking Vessels) For sudden cold extremities in children. This may be due to exterior pathogens closing the meridians, wind-phlegm obstructing Ying and Wei, or post-major illness where Yang qi fails to distribute to the four limbs. Quickly roast fresh ginger until cooked, pound to extract half a small cup of juice. Add a little Ma You (Sesame Oil) and mix well. Dip fingers in the ginger-oil mixture and massage the child's hands and feet, rubbing and kneading downwards to unblock meridians. When warmth returns, wipe away with paper. For children with sluggish finger veins that do not move when pushed, urgently use this method to push them open. This method is effective regardless of Yin/Yang or deficiency/excess.
Ding Tong Fa (Method of Stabilizing Pain) For pediatric chest fullness and abdominal pain where medicine is unavailable. Take one bowl of Yan (Salt), stir-fry in a pan until extremely hot, wrap in cloth, and iron/warm the chest and abdomen from top to bottom. Salt enters the blood level and is best at softening hardness, thus relieving pain. Reheat and iron if it cools down, stopping only when pain resolves. This method is used for qi pain in both men and women.
The above nine methods are not found in ancient books; they are actually unique teachings passed down to me through experience. Having been tested for a long time with miraculous efficacy, I record them here to share with the world for public use.
