Tai Re (Fetal Heat) refers to the condition where, after birth, an infant's skin on the head, face, and body appears deep red, resembling Jiang Se (a dark red-purple hue). This occurs because the fetus, while in the womb, has absorbed internal heat from the mother or inherited toxins from syphilis or gonorrhea from the parents. Consequently, toxic fire accumulates within the infant's body, manifesting as a sign that fetal toxins are preparing to erupt outward. Generally, a rosy complexion is the natural, healthy color of infants; possessing this innate healthy color facilitates proper nourishment and robust growth. However, it must be a light red with fine, moist, and lustrous skin, which cannot be compared to the deep red, Jiang-like appearance and rough, unsmooth skin characteristic of Tai Re. To distinguish it in detail, one may examine whether the infant exhibits other signs of heat, such as rising heat in the mouth, rapid and coarse breathing resembling panting, swelling of the head, face, and limbs, white putrid patches filling the oral cavity, hot breath steaming the hand when probing the mouth with a finger, red and tearing whites of the eyes, thick yellow discharge covering the entire eye area preventing opening or closing, swollen and hard gums making breastfeeding difficult, constipation, short and dark-red urine, or even anuria. All these phenomena are external manifestations of the Tai Re syndrome. The treatment method first involves using a silver needle to gently puncture the junctions of the upper and lower jaws (He Gu) and the swollen, hard areas of the gums; wiping away the purple, toxic stasis blood. Then, wrap the index finger with coarse cloth to wipe open the white spots inside the mouth and apply Cao Ling Dan (Grass Spirit Powder). This immediately relieves numbness and dissipates swelling and toxicity, allowing the infant to take in breast milk. Subsequently, administer decoctions with heat-clearing and detoxifying properties for the infant to suckle along with the milk, thereby clearing fetal heat and resolving fetal toxins. No treatment method is superior to this. The formulas for the Decoction for Clearing Heat and Detoxifying and Cao Ling Dan are listed below.
