The Xingren Decoction (Almond Decoction) from the *Shenghui Fang* treats pediatric cough with loss of voice.
Xingren (Almond, *Semen Armeniacae Amarum*) (soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed, placed in one large cup of water, ground and filtered to extract juice, dosage: two liang) Su (Butter/Ghee), Mi (Honey) (each one he).
Take the above ingredients. First, place the Xingren juice in a pan and boil using a double-boiler method until the volume is reduced by half. Add Su and Mi, and continue boiling over water for twenty boils. Then add Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb, *Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae*) powder and Ziwan (Aster Root, *Radix Asteris Tatarici*) powder, each one fen, and Gancao (Licorice Root, *Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis*) powder, half a fen. Continue decocting while stirring until it resembles maltose syrup. Store in a porcelain vessel. For each dose, take half a qian mixed with clear rice gruel, three times daily and once at night. Continue until the cough stops; adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
Another prescription:
Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb, *Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae*) (half a liang, roasted) Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, *Calculus Bovis*) (finely ground, one qian) Gancao (Licorice Root, *Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis*) (roasted, one fen)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. For each dose, mix half a qian with warm water and administer, three to four times daily. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
Yet another prescription:

Mix the Xingren juice and Ziwan powder, add one he of honey, and decoct together until forming a paste. For each dose, take half a tea spoon mixed with clear rice gruel. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
When a child suffers from Jingfeng (Convulsions), and coughing occurs after the convulsions cease, it is called Jingge Sou (Startle-Obstruction Cough). Master Mao recommends administering Xiajin Wan (Lower Metal Almond Pill) combined with Yunqi San (Harmonize Qi Powder).
Xiajin Wan (Lower Metal Almond Pill):
Xingren (Almond, *Semen Armeniacae Amarum*) (remove skin and tips) Tiantingli (Descurainiae Semen, *Semen Descurainiae Sophiae*) Hanfangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, *Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae*) Madouling (Aristolochiae Fructus, *Fructus Aristolochiae)* (remove skin)
Grind the above ingredients in equal proportions into powder. Use honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take ten pills per dose, swallowed with prepared Maimendong (Ophiopogon Tuber, *Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonici*) water. (Master Mao has already included this formula in the previous Cough section; since they have different indications, neither should be deleted, so both are retained.)
Yunqi San (Harmonize Qi Powder):
Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, *Radix Platycodonis Grandiflori*) (remove rhizome, wash clean, dry, five liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, *Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis*) (two liang) Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, *Fructus Amomi Rotundus*) Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome, *Rhizoma Cyperi*) (wash) Chenju pi (Citrus Peel, *Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae*) (each one liang) Baijiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Candidum, *Rhizoma Zingiberis Candidum*) (one fen)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take half a qian to one qian per dose, mixed with soup decocted from Shuang Mugua (Frosty Papaya, *Fructus Chaenomeles*). If unavailable, use Zisu (Perilla Leaf, *Folium Perillae*) and salt decocted in water instead.
