Teeth are the culmination of bones and are nourished by marrow. If a child has insufficient congenital Kidney Qi, it cannot ascend to nourish the head, resulting in empty Marrow Sea, which fails to fill the bones; how can it then promote tooth eruption? Therefore, delayed tooth eruption occurs, and Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill) should be primarily used. A three-year-old child could neither speak nor walk, with particularly sparse hair and teeth, emaciated body, difficulty standing, accompanied by fever and thirst. The administration of Fei'er Wan (Flesh-Enriching Pill) was ineffective. I stated that this is a deficiency of the Kidney complicated by Gan syndrome (malnutrition). Since Fei'er Wan is a formula for the Spleen and Stomach meridians, prolonged use would further deplete the Kidney and exacerbate the Gan condition. The parents did not believe this, and the child's teeth and hair gradually fell out. Subsequently, Dihuang Wan supplemented with Lurong (Deer Antler) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) was prescribed. After half a year, the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) became robust. Another child was emaciated with thin legs, had difficulty walking, unfirm teeth, and sparse, short hair. Treatment with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) and Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) for over a year resulted in the complete resolution of all symptoms and a robust physique.
[Zhang Huan] Xiangfu Dan (Cyperi Bulb Pill) treats delayed tooth eruption.
Da Xiangfu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma, selected clean, skin scraped off), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, each 1 liang), Xiong Shufen (Excrement of male mouse, burnt to ash), Ganchan (Bufo bufo gargarizans, burnt to ash), Binglang (Arecae Semen, each 0.5 liang).
The above ingredients are crushed and sifted into fine powder. Mix with 4 liang of Yangsui (Marrow of Ovis aries or Bos taurus), boiled until soft, to form a paste, sized like Setaria italica seeds. Take 10 pills per dose, administered with Shexiang Tang (Moschus Decoction), adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size.
[Tang Shi] Xionghuang San (Ligusticum and Rehmannia Powder) treats delayed tooth eruption in children.
Da Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, each 0.5 liang), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared by honey-frying, each 1 fen).
The above ingredients are baked and ground into powder. Administer mixed with hot water. Alternatively, apply the powder directly to the gums occasionally.
Qianjin Yi Fang (Supplement to the Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states that bamboo or wood from a latrine pit treats delayed tooth eruption in children. Scrape and apply on the first day of the New Year, and teeth will erupt.
Waitai Jianyue (External Cabinet: Short Prescriptions) another method: Take 21 pieces of Excrement of female mouse. Use one piece to wipe the tooth root area. Stop after using one piece. Teeth should erupt within twenty-one days.
The Excrement of female mouse has a pointed tip. This is consistent with Qianjin Fang. Yangshi Chanlu Fang (Yang's Obstetric and Neonatal Formulas) uses 30 pieces, specifying female excrement, and those with rounded ends at both sides are used.
Shenghui Fang (Prescriptions of Holy Grace) treats delayed tooth eruption in children, or failure to erupt after loss.
Take 14 black beans from cow dung. Gently open them to remove the skin on the tip. Apply the opened end of these beans to the tooth root repeatedly. It should be effective.
