The Liver governs Blood, and the Lungs govern Qi. Blood serves as Ying (Nutritive) Qi, and Qi serves as Wei (Defensive) Qi. When Yin and Yang are paired in harmony without deviation, these two Zang organs (Liver and Lung) are smooth and harmonious, following a consistent pattern. If Blood is deficient while Qi is excessive, pregnancy will certainly not occur; if Blood is abundant while Qi is deficient, pregnancy should be present. A fine Chi pulse, a slippery Guan pulse, and a rapid Chi pulse indicate that the fetal pulse has manifested; although several months of pregnancy have passed, it remains undetected. A rapid pulse on the left hand indicates a male fetus, and a rapid pulse on the right hand indicates a female fetus; the pulse flows smoothly and rapidly. If the Guan pulses on both hands are large and corresponding, this was discussed previously. A longitudinal pulse pattern on the left hand suggests twins of boys, and a transverse pulse pattern on the right hand suggests twins of girls. A reverse pulse on the left hand indicates three boys, and a smooth pulse on the right hand indicates three girls. Correspondence in the Cun and Guan positions distinguishes one boy and one girl. Sometimes the fetus dies while the mother survives, or the mother dies while the fetus lives. If the pulses in all three positions flow smoothly, with slippery and rapid qualities appearing vigorous and distinct, it clarifies the pulse of Excess Yang and Deficient Yin, where rebellious Qi fills the chest. A floating and large Taiyang pulse on the left hand indicates a boy, and a deep and thin Taiyin pulse on the right hand indicates a girl. All Yang pulses relate to males, and all Yin pulses relate to females; this clear distinction under the fingers must be remembered long-term. If the pulses in all three positions are deep, regular, and equal without doubt, and the Chi position shows continuous movement, it confirms a true pregnant woman. "Mother overcoming Child" corresponds to Longitudinal (Zong), with Qi exposed externally; "Wife overcoming Husband" corresponds to Transverse (Heng), with Qi assisting; "Child overcoming Mother" corresponds to Reverse (Ni), involving the husband's participation; "Husband overcoming Wife" corresponds to Smooth (Shun), with Qi protecting. When the fetal term is full and the fetus gathers, there may be body heat and chaotic pulses but no suffering; during periods of sweating, anorexia, and vomiting, spiritual essence resides within. A slippery and rapid pulse that does not scatter indicates three months of pregnancy; a rapid pulse that does not scatter indicates five months. A wiry, tight, firm, strong, or slippery pulse indicates safety; a deep, fine, and faint pulse leads to the underworld (death).
Vaginal bleeding resembling menstrual flow, if extremely profuse leading to dryness of the fetus, indicates fetal death. It also damages the pregnant mother, requiring concern for rescue. Urgently administer Divine Elixir to save her.
At the time of delivery, the pulse deviates from the normal channel (Li Jing); deep, fine, and slippery pulses share this name (referring to labor pulses). Pain felt at midnight indicates imminent birth; by noon the next day, birth is certain. (This song and the preceding song both originate from *Mai Jue* [Pulse Classic].)
Yang Deficiency: The Mingmen pulse at the right Chi position is fine and minute; impotence and clear semen. Treat with Huan Shao Dan (Restore Youth Pill) and Jushengzi Wan (Sesame Seed Pill).
Yin Deficiency: The Kidney pulse at the left Chi position is surging and large or rapid; symptoms include spermatorrhea, hematuria, and dysuria. Treat with Danxi Dabu Yin Wan (Danxi's Great Tonify Yin Pill), Buyin Wan (Nourish Yin Pill), and Jiawei Huqian Wan (Modified Tiger Knee Pill).
Hyperactivity of Ministerial Fire: Frequent erections; the Mingmen pulse at the right Chi position is surging and large. This indicates Water failing to control Fire, treated similarly to Yin Deficiency; nourishing Yin causes Fire to descend naturally.
Combined Yin and Yang Deficiency: Both Chi pulses are weak, minute, and powerless; pure essence is clear and thin. Treat with Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) and Butian Wan (Tonify Heaven Pill).
