茸朱丹 治肾虚火炎头痛。必先眼黑头旋。

【茸朱丹】治疗肾虚火炎引起的头痛。发病前必然出现眼前发黑、头晕目眩的症状。
辰砂（单独研磨）、草乌头（一作川乌头）、瞿麦穗、黄药子（各一两）。
以上药物除去辰砂，将其余三味捣成粗末。用一个瓷碗，用姜汁涂抹并烘烤数次，将辰砂放入碗中，铺上诸药末，用盏盖住碗口。
挖一个地洞，将碗放入其中，用五斤熟炭加热，待火势燃尽后，吹去药灰，取出辰砂研磨成细粉。取鹿茸一对，去掉毛，用酒浸泡，切片，焙干后研为细末。用煮枣肉制成梧桐子大小的丸剂。每次服用三四十丸，空腹时，用人参汤或黑豆淋酒送服。体质强壮者加倍用量，体质虚弱者酌情减量使用。
【羌活附子汤】治疗大寒侵犯脑部导致的厥逆证。症状包括头痛，牙齿也疼痛。
麻黄（一钱）、黄芪（二钱）、苍术（制过，五分）、羌活（七分）、防风、升麻、甘草（炙过，各三分）、生附子（一钱）、白芷、僵蚕、黄柏（酒炒，各五分）。
用水煎煮，去渣，饭后温服。如果有咳嗽，加佛耳草五分。
【选奇汤】治疗风火相互煽动引起的眉棱骨疼痛。
羌活（钱半）、防风（一钱）、黄芩（酒炒，钱半）、甘草（炙过，一钱）、生姜（一片）。
用水煎煮，去渣，饭后稍热时缓缓服用。冬季，去掉黄芩，加香豉三钱、葱白两根。如果疼痛牵连到眼角鱼尾处，属于血虚，加黄芪三钱、当归一钱。下午发热属于血热，加白芍一钱五分。眼睛发红，加菊花。鼻塞，加细辛。夏季靠近火源时疼痛加剧，属于伏火，加石膏三钱。头风疼痛发热不止，加石膏、麻黄。如果上述方法无效，属于血病，加川芎、芽茶。羌活、甘草的辛甘发散作用，仅能治疗风邪，不能散火，得到黄芩的配合协助，才是分解风火的良法。黄芩虽然苦寒，但专走肌表，所以在解表药中无不使用它。看张仲景的黄芩汤、柴胡汤，以及奉议的阳旦汤就可以知道。
【川芎茶调散】（出自《局方》）治疗久病化风生火引起的头痛，以及偏头痛和正头痛（头风）。
川芎、白芷、羌活、防风、荆芥、薄荷、甘草（炙过，各一两）。
香附（童便浸泡，炒至二两）。
制成散剂，饭后用茶水调服二钱，每日三次。妇女产后，用豆淋酒送服。轻症服三次，重症服五到七次见效。
【山牛汤】治疗霉疮引起的头痛不止。
土茯苓（四两）、忍冬（三钱）、防风、天麻、黑参（各一钱）、辛荑仁、川芎（各六分）。
黑豆（四十九粒）、芽茶（一撮）。
用水煎煮，温服。
【半夏苍术汤】（即柴胡半夏汤）治疗素来有风证的人，症状为眼睛干涩、头痛眩晕，胸中有痰，恶心欲吐。如果在温暖的房间，则微微出汗，症状减轻；见到风，症状又发作。通常在起风前一天疼痛剧烈。
升麻、柴胡、藁本（各五分）、茯苓、神曲（姜汁炒，各一钱）、苍术（泔水制）、半夏（各二钱）。
生姜（十片）、甘草（炙过，四分）。
用水煎煮，饭后较远时间稍热服用。
【清空膏】治疗头风湿热上盛，遇风即发。
羌活（三两）、防风（二两）、甘草（炙过，半两）、黄芩（三两，酒炒）、黄连（一两，酒炒）、柴胡（七钱）、川芎（五钱）。
共研为细末。每次服用五钱，放在盏内，用半盏茶水调匀，隔水蒸煮如膏状。临睡前用汤药送下。（此方即在选奇汤基础上加下方三味药而成）
【芎辛汤】治疗热厥引起的头痛。
川芎（钱半）、细辛（半钱）、甘草（炙过，六分）、生姜（五片）。
用水煎煮，饭后热服。如果有热象，加酒黄芩一钱五分。如果无效，再加生石膏三钱、乌头二分。胃虚者，去掉白芷改用白术，使邪气没有内贼之患。兼感客邪者，加葱白、香豉。产妇，用豆淋酒煎服。
【三因芎辛汤】治疗寒厥引起的头痛。
川附子（去皮，生用）、川乌头（去皮，生用）、天南星（姜汤泡，去涎水）、干姜（生用）、细辛（连叶）、川芎（各一钱）、甘草（炙过，半钱）。
生姜（七片）、芽茶（一撮）。
用水煎煮，放凉后卧床时服用。面赤戴阳（虚阳上浮），加葱白两根、童便半杯。如果无效，再加酒炒黄连三分。
【大追风散】治疗一切头风攻注属于虚寒证的。
川乌头（炮制）、防风、羌活、川芎（各一两）、全蝎（去毒，醋泡，炒黄）、地龙（去土，炒脆）。
南星（炮制）、天麻（煨，各五钱）、荆芥、甘草（炙过）、僵蚕（炒黄）、石膏（煅，各八钱）。
制成散剂。每次服用二钱，临睡前用茶水调服。（《局方》版本多含白附子、白芷各五钱，乳香、没药、草乌、雄黄各一钱五分。）
【千金大三五七散】治疗头风眩晕，口眼歪斜耳聋，以及八风五痹，瘫痪，脚气缓弱。
天雄（三枚，炮制，去皮脐）、细辛（三两）、山茱萸肉、干姜（炮制，各五两）、防风、茯苓（各七两）。
制成散剂。每次服用二钱，饭前用温酒调服。（本方去掉细辛、干姜、防风、茯苓，加入薯蓣，即为小三五七散。（《局方》无天雄，用熟附子三枚。）
【头风摩散】治疗大寒侵犯脑部引起的头痛。
大附子（一枚，炮制）、盐（等分）。
制成散剂，沐浴后用一方寸匕的药粉按摩疼痛部位。
【半夏白术天麻汤】治疗痰厥引起的头痛目眩。
黄柏（姜汁炒，一钱）、干姜（炮制，三分）、泽泻、天麻（煨切）、黄芪（姜汁炒）、人参、苍术（泔水制）。
神曲（炒）、白术（各钱半）、半夏曲（炒）、橘红、麦麸（各七分）、茯苓（八分）、生姜（三片）。
用水煎煮，稍热时，饭后较远时间服用。
【宝鉴石膏散】治疗风热引起的头痛。
石膏（生用，打碎，一两）、麻黄（去节，泡，半两）、何首乌（生用，晒干）、葛根（各七钱半）。
制成散剂。每次服用四五钱，加入生姜三片、芽茶一撮，用水煎服。取微汗即可见效。春夏季节麻黄用量减少，不可拘泥一格。
【透顶散】治疗偏正夹脑风，一切头风无论新旧都有效。并治疗鼻塞不闻香臭。
细辛（三茎）、瓜蒂（七枚，熬制）、丁香（七粒）、糯米（七粒，一作赤小豆）、龙脑（半分）、麝香（一分）。
前四味捣为细末，加入龙脑、麝香共同研磨。放入小口罐中，紧塞罐口。让患者口含清水，随左右鼻孔各搐入约一粒豆大的药粉。良久流出涎液即安。如果不愈，三天后再搐。
【蓖麻贴法】治疗气攻头痛不可忍受。
蓖麻仁、乳香（等分）。
一起捣烂做成饼，贴在太阳穴上。如果疼痛停止，急于在头顶解开头发散发热气，随即去掉药贴。（另一方法，无乳香，多加麝香一方。）
【一字散】治疗头风。
雄黄、细辛（各一钱）、川乌尖（生用，三钱）。
制成散剂。不拘时间，用茶水调服“一字”量，每日三次。
【一滴金】治疗首风偏正头风。
人中白（煅）、地龙（晒干，等分）。
制成细末，用羊胆汁做成梧桐子大小的丸剂。每次用一丸，新汲水一滴化开滴入鼻内。
【火筒散】治疗头风鼻塞不利。
蚯蚓粪（四钱）、乳香（二钱）、麝香（二分）。
制成散剂。用纸筒从下往上烧，吸烟搐入鼻内。
【清震汤】治疗雷头风，头面起疙瘩，憎寒壮热，像伤寒一样。

[Rongzhu Dan] Treats headache caused by kidney deficiency and flaming fire. Before onset, there must be symptoms of blacking out before the eyes and vertigo.
Cinnabar (separately ground), Aconitum kusnezoffii Root (Caowutou) (also known as Sichuan Aconite Root, Chuanwutou), Agrostemma Seed (Qumaisui), Dioscorea bulbifera Tuber (Huangyaozi) (each 1 liang).
Remove Cinnabar from the above ingredients. Grind the remaining three herbs into coarse powder. Use one porcelain bowl, coat it with ginger juice and roast several times. Place Cinnabar in the bowl, spread the herb powders on top, and cover with a small cup.
Dig a hole in the ground, place the bowl inside, and use 5 jin of well-burned charcoal to heat. When the fire is exhausted, blow away the ash, take out the Cinnabar, and grind it into fine powder. Take one pair of Deer Antler Lu Rong, remove hair, soak in wine, slice, bake until dry, and grind into powder. Make pills the size of wu zi (wuze tree seeds) using paste from boiled jujubes. Take 30-40 pills per dose, on an empty stomach, administered with Ginseng Decoction or Black Bean Wine. Increase dosage for strong constitutions; reduce for weak constitutions.
[Qianghuo Fuzi Tang] Treats jue ni (reversal cold syndrome) caused by severe cold invading the brain. Symptoms include headache and toothache.
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (1 qian), Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 黄芪) (2 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 苍术) (processed, 5 fen), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活) (7 fen), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, each 3 fen), Raw Aconiti Lateralis Radix (Shengfuzi, 生附子) (1 qian), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, 僵蚕), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (wine-fried, each 5 fen).
Decoct in water, strain, and take warm after meals. If cough is present, add Petasitae Flos (Foercao, 佛耳草) 5 fen.
[Xuanqi Tang] Treats brow bone pain caused by wind-fire stirring each other.
Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活) (1.5 qian), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (1 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (wine-fried, 1.5 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, 1 qian), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (1 slice).
Decoct in water, strain, and take slowly while slightly warm after meals. In winter, remove Scutellariae Radix and add Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi, 香豉) 3 qian, and two stems of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Congbai, 葱白). If pain radiates to the corner of the eye (fish tail), it indicates blood deficiency; add Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 黄芪) 3 qian and Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) 1 qian. Afternoon fever indicates blood heat; add Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 白芍) 1.5 qian. Red eyes: add Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua, 菊花). Nasal congestion: add Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛). In summer, if pain worsens near fire, it indicates latent fire; add Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) 3 qian. Persistent headache with heat: add Gypsum Fibrosum and Ephedrae Herba. If ineffective, it belongs to blood disease; add Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) and Bud Tea (Yacha, 芽茶). The acrid-sweet dispersing action of Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma only treats wind, not fire. With the assistance of Scutellariae Radix, it becomes a good method for separating wind and fire. Although Scutellariae Radix is bitter and cold, it specifically travels to the muscle surface, so it is used in all exterior-releasing formulas. This can be seen in Zhang Zhongjing's Huangqin Tang and Chaihu Tang, as well as Fengyi's Yangdan Tang.
[Chuanxiong Chatiao San] (From Ju Fang) Treats long-standing wind transforming into fire causing headache, as well as lateral and central head wind (toufeng).
Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie, 荆芥), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe, 薄荷), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, each 1 liang).
Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu, 童便浸。炒二两) (soaked in child's urine, roasted, 2 liang).
Make into powder. Take 2 qian mixed with clear tea after meals, three times daily. For postpartum women, administer with Doulin Jiu (Bean-soaking Wine). Mild cases improve after 3 doses; severe cases after 5-7 doses.
[Shanniu Tang] Treats persistent headache caused by meichuang (syphilis-like sore).

[Banxia Cangzhu Tang] (Also known as Chaihu Banxia Tang) Treats patients with pre-existing wind syndrome, presenting with dry eyes, headache, vertigo, phlegm in the chest, nausea, and desire to vomit. Symptoms decrease with slight sweating in warm rooms but recur upon exposure to wind. Pain is severe one day before the wind arrives.
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡), Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma (Ben, 藁本) (each 5 fen), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Saccharomyces (Shenqu, 神曲) (fried with ginger juice, each 1 qian), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu, 苍术) (processed with rice wash water), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia, 半夏) (each 2 qian).
Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (10 slices), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, 4 fen).
Decoct in water, take slightly warm at a time far from meals.
[Qingkong Gao] Treats head wind-damp-heat rising excessively, triggered by wind.
Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活) (3 liang), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (2 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, 0.5 liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (3 liang, wine-fried), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连) (1 liang, wine-fried), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu, 柴胡) (7 qian), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (5 qian).
Grind into fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, place in a cup, mix with half a cup of clear tea, steam over water until like paste. Take with decoction before sleep. (This formula is Xuanqi Tang plus the following three herbs.)
[Xiongxin Tang] Treats headache due to heat jue (reversal).
Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (1.5 qian), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) (0.5 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, 6 fen), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (5 slices).
Decoct in water, take hot after meals. If heat signs are present, add Scutellariae Radix fried with wine (Jiu Huangqin, 酒黄芩) 1.5 qian. If ineffective, add Raw Gypsum Fibrosum (Sheng Shigao, 生石膏) 3 qian and Aconitum Carmandii Root (Wutou, 乌头) 2 fen. For stomach deficiency, remove Angelicae Dahuricae Radix and replace with Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) to prevent internal pathogenic factors. If affected by external pathogens, add Allii Fistulosi Bulbus and Fermented Soybean. For postpartum women, decoct with Doulin Jiu.
[Sanyin Xiongxin Tang] Treats headache due to cold jue (reversal).
Sichuan Prepared Aconite Root (Chuan Fuzi, 川附子) (peeled, raw), Sichuan Aconite Root (Chuan Wutou, 川乌头) (peeled, raw), Arisaema Cum Bile (Tiannanxing, 天南星) (soaked in ginger soup, spit removed), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, 干姜) (raw), Asari Radix et Rhizoma with leaves (Xixin, 细辛), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (each 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted, 0.5 qian).
Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (7 slices), Bud Tea (Yacha, 芽茶) (a pinch).
Decoct in water, let cool, and take when lying down. For facial redness with floating yang (Daiyang, 戴阳), add two stems of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus and half a cup of child's urine. If ineffective, add Scutellariae Radix fried with wine (Jiu Huanglian, 酒黄连) 3 fen.
[Dazhuifeng San] Treats all head winds attacking inward belonging to deficiency-cold.
Sichuan Aconite Root (Chuan Wutou, 川乌头) (processed), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo, 羌活), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (each 1 liang), Scorpio (Quanxie, 全蝎) (remove toxicity, soak in vinegar, roast yellow), Earthworm (Dilong, 地龙) (remove soil, roast crisp).
Arisaema Cum Bile (Nanxing, 南星) (processed), Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma, 天麻) (baked, each 5 qian), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie, 荆芥), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, 僵蚕) (roast yellow), Gypsum Fibrosum calcined (Shigao, 石膏) (each 8 qian).
Make into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mix with clear tea and take before bed. (Ju Fang version includes Bai Fu Zi and Baizhi each 5 qian, Rush Xiang, Mo Yao, Caowutou, and Xionghuang each 1.5 qian.)
[Qianjin Da San Wu Qi San] Treats head wind vertigo, deviation of mouth and eyes, deafness, eight winds and five obstructions, paralysis, and foot qi with weakness.
Aconitum Coreanum Root (Tianxiong, 天雄) (3 pieces, processed, remove skin and navel), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) (3 liang), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu Rou, 山茱萸肉), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, 干姜) (processed, each 5 liang), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓) (each 7 liang).
Make into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mix with warm wine and take before meals. (Removing this formula's Xixin, Ganjiang, Fangfeng, and Fuling, and adding Dioscoreae Rhizoma yields Xiao San Wu Qi San. (Ju Fang has no Tianxiong, uses Prepared Aconite Root 3 pieces).)
[Toufeng Mo San] Treats headache caused by severe cold invading the brain.
Large Prepared Aconite Root (Da Fuzi, 大附子) (1 piece, processed), Salt (equal parts).
Make into powder. After bathing, massage the painful area with a square-inch measure of the powder.
[Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang] Treats headache and vertigo due to phlegm jue (reversal).

[Baojian Shigao San] Treats headache due to wind-heat.
Raw Gypsum Fibrosum (Sheng Shigao, 石膏) (raw, crushed, 1 liang), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (remove joints, soak, 0.5 liang), Polygoni Multiflori Radix (Heshouwu, 何首乌) (raw, sun-dried), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen, 葛根) (each 7.5 qian).
Make into powder. Take 4-5 qian per dose, add 3 slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens and a pinch of Bud Tea, decoct in water and take. Effect achieved with slight sweating. Reduce Mahuang dosage in spring and summer; do not adhere rigidly.
[Touding San] Treats lateral and central clamping brain wind. Effective for all head winds, old and new. Also treats nasal congestion and loss of smell/taste.
Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) (3 stems), Melon Trichosanthes Fruit (Gua Di, 瓜蒂) (7 pieces, roasted), Eugeniae Caryophyllati Flos (Dingxiang, 丁香) (7 grains), Glutinose Rice (Nuomi, 糯米) (7 grains, alternatively Adzuki Bean), Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao, 龙脑), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) (0.5 fen).
Pound the first four ingredients into fine powder, add Longnao and Shexiang, and grind together. Place in a small-mouthed jar, seal tightly. Have the patient hold clear water in their mouth. Snuff about the size of a bean into the nostrils according to left/right. Saliva discharge brings relief. If not cured, snuff again after three days.
[Bima Tie Fa] Treats unbearable headache due to qi attack.
Castor Seed (Bima Ren, 篦麻仁), Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (equal parts).
Pound together into a paste, make into a cake, and apply to the Taiyang acupoint. Once pain subsides, urgently loosen hair at the vertex to vent heat, then remove the medicine. (Another method: no Ruxiang, add more Shexiang.)
[Yizi San] Treats head wind.
Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) (each 1 qian), Tip of Sichuan Aconite Root (Chuan Wujian, 川乌尖) (raw, 3 qian).
Make into powder. Take "one character" amount mixed with clear tea at any time, three times daily.
[Yidian Jin] Treats shoufeng (head wind) and lateral/central head wind.
Human Ash (Renzhongbai, 人中白) (calcined), Earthworm (Dilong, 地龙) (sun-dried, equal parts).
Make into fine powder, form pills the size of mustard seeds using sheep bile. Use one pill per time, dissolve in one drop of fresh well water, and drip into the nose.
[Hutong San] Treats head wind with nasal congestion and obstruction.
Earthworm Excrement (Qiuyin Fen, 蚯蚓粪) (4 qian), Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (2 qian), Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香) (2 fen).
Make into powder. Use a paper tube, burn from bottom to top, inhale the smoke into the nose.
[Qinzhen Tang] Treats Leitoufeng (thunder head wind) with lumps on head and face, aversion to cold with high fever, resembling Shanghan.
